Gonna throw my 2 cents in.
Hating on the most successful VR headset category in history that’s grown the industry 10 fold because it’s “not powerful enough” is asinine
Every Quest is a PCVR headset. Every Quest user is a VR user.
You know what Unity didn't address in their update?
This.
They can shove that 2.5% up their ass if it can change it any moment. No word on that in the update.
Good update. Not just the terms, but also the clarity of it. Easy to understand and the details don't contradict the main terms.
Many will talk about the trust issue. I would say that in a profit driven system, all you can ask for is that the company listens to feedback and reasonably act on it, which Unity has done now. It is also good that engines like Godot have gotten a bit of a boost so we are less likely to see a monopoly which will keep Unity in check.
@audrow Make a weekly or monthly YouTube show. Or maybe use cartoons like transformers back in the day but with less violence and more robotic engineering
I apologize for the confusion and angst my previous response caused. We are listening, talking to our team members, community. WE have come with a solution for this.
- Fire your CEO (to regain some trust and not bleed all your developer teams to competing firms, the company will not exist with no education/devs)
- Get full reversion of the policy (and deeply apologize to return to normalcy)
- Implement an optional entrance to a 4% revenue share with all features from pro. (this scales with revenue make it the only entrance after 2 years) the more devs the more revenue.
- Seal the Therms in a rock solid way, never implement anything like this again.
- The company makes 100 million+ on ads, and 30 million+ on subscriptions each month. I suggest. recommend not acquire 1Billion+ companies
I sure hope Andy’s right and it will be reversed. in the process please get rid of ceo Riccitiello as well. This ceo is like John Scully for apple back in the days. Only after money. He will destroy the company till someone who makes sense returns to take back the company.
The only reason why i'm not worried is that this decision will get reversed in a few days and everything will be 'back to normal'.
Oh to be a fly on the wall the Internal Slack and seeing all the folks who understand gamedev & community highlighting how problematic this is.
@andytouch I hope you’re right. I personally will not be affected by this new rule, as I haven’t made any big games. it’s far from the original 2005 idea that unity used to be (for & by developers) A move to unreal engine would make my one-of projects and experiments impossible. I need c#
Greg Brockman’s (@gdb) TED talk demoed ChatGPT plugins.
Right away he had:
- ChatGPT create a meal idea
- DALL-E generate an image of it
- Retrieval save the chat
- Instacart add the ingredients from memory to the cart
- Zapier create & send a Tweet about it
This is the future.
