"I deplore...the putrid state into which our newspapers have passed and the malignity, the vulgarity, and mendacious spirit of those who write for them..."
"Nothing can now be believed which is seen in a newspaper"
โAs for what is not true, you will always find abundance in the newspapers.โ

@gmokery@BlackDumpling Well given most construction stopped in the 80's that makes sense. Lack of institutional knowledge and other roadblocks causing delays always play a role.
Except in China. They have like 35 under construction at the moment.
@gmokery@BlackDumpling That's what happens when you quit building the for 30 years then run into regulatory hoops and Nimbyism.
As I mentioned befirw, the US military doesn't seem to ha e the same issues the civilian sector does, why do you think that is?
Lack of domestic experience in building reactor parts, a new reactor design, the NRC mandating design changes late in construction, and Westinghouse going broke as a result are responsible for that.
Consider how many nuclear reactors for the Navy have been delivered the past three decades, and ask if that were possible if they had to go thru the NRC...
Three Mile Island killed US Nuclear.
While noone died, and there were a lot of good lessons to take away from it. That the NRC imposed a temporary moratorium on licensing new reactors immediately after the accident. Although lifted, the new regulatory environment, rising costs and public opposition, led to the cancellation of over 100 facilities.
No new plants constructed after three mile were completed until the Vogtle plants.
