I fon’t know why are we so fixated on Matam. Shias are not the only people who express grief or devotion through the body. Christians have whipped themselves in penance. Some Catholics in Philippines still reenact crucifixion on Good Friday. Hindu devotees in Thaipusam pierce their bodies to show devotion. In other beliefs people have practiced extreme fasting as well.

You don’t have to agree with any of it. But calling only Shia mourning “barbaric” is intellectual dishonesty.

In religions, the body had been used as a language for grief, guilt, sacrifice and for that matter to prove faith as well.

Sexual deprivation and sexual perversion are two different things.

فرض کریں اگر ہر شہر میں ہیرا منڈی بنا بھی دی جائے، تب بھی یہ درندے عورتوں اور بچوں کا پیچھا نہیں چھوڑیں گے، کیونکہ مسئلہ sex کی availability کا ہے ہی نہیں ۔ مسئلہ اخلاقی زوال کا ہے، ،مسئلہ ذہنی گندگی کا ہے ، طاقت کے نشہ کا ہے، کمزور کو شکار کرنے کا ہے۔۔ اور ان سب سے تسکیں لینے کا ہے۔ ، اورسب سے بڑھ کر سزا کے خوف کی عدم موجودگی ہے۔

اس میں ایک اور بات بھی قابل غور ہے کہ جو لڑکی ہیرا منڈی تک پہنچتی ہے، وہ بھی اکثر کسی نہ کسی مجبوری، اغوا، دھوکے یا ظلم کا شکار ہو کر وہاں پہنچتی ہے۔ پہلے اسے خود درندگی کا نشانہ بناتے ہیں ، پھر آگے بیچ دیا جاتا ہے یا مزید درندوں کے سامنے ڈال دیا جاتا ہے۔

یہ کیسی بے حسی ہے کہ ہم بیس لڑکیوں کو بچانے کے لیے کسی ایک لڑکی کی قربانی قبول کر لیں؟

ایک نارمل انسان محرومی سے درندہ نہیں بنتا، اور ایک درندہ سہولت ملنے سے مہذب نہیں ہو جاتا۔

حل ہیرا منڈیکی ضرورت نہیں۔۔۔سخت سزا، کی ضرورت ہے، فوری انصاف دیا جائے، نگرانی ضروری ہے ، اور سب سے بڑھ کر accountability ۔

درندوں کو درندگی کےبہانے نہیں، قانون کا خوف ہونا چاہیے۔
