Some years ago - in the nineties - ancient times - I found myself in Germany for a period and was doing German lessons in Köln in midwinter . Snow on the ground and really https://t.co/HirNFkY5Wt of the others in the class was a tall very beautiful Tanzanian woman, very black, well spoken English. We’d walk back the same way after class and she was pretty cool so we’d walk together . She was apparently In Germany on a modelling contract . I don’t know if you know, but there were fokkol black people in Germany in the 90s. Rare as a white oke in China at the time. So people would stare at us , which I thought was just rude and said so. She looked at me and said ‘it’s not me. It’s how we walk. Look at them.’ And it was true. The locals looked beaten by the weather . All hunched up and heads down , scurrying about looking like they hate being there . Cities are always horrible in the snow. I get it, It’s just wet stinking slush . And we were just 2 dumb Africans that didn’t even have the wherewithal to own a decent jacket, striding about the place, heads held high, looking for the sunny spots to walk in. I often think about that , because when ever I’m in Europe I notice exactly that - Africans stride. You can spot an actual African tourist anywhere in Europe a mile off.
