@Gemenne The old adage one always hears WRT rights and liberty is apt here: "your right to swing your fist ends where my nose begins". When the exercise of one's liberties limits those of another, as in the case of climate change, I would say yes it does require a limitation! #ClimGeoPSIA
@Gemenne No, we do not expect too much a priori. However, the current format of the negotiations present it almost as a prisoner's dilemma between the parties. In this form - yes, it is not surprising that we have not seen effective outcomes, and we do indeed expect too much! #ClimGeoPSIA
@Gemenne Yes, there is definitely a risk, and in all likelihood, a probability that some nations will attempt to block this kind of migration, but I don't believe it is an either/or question. Countries can do this and still target lower GHG emissions!
#ClimGeoPSIA
@Gemenne The recent effects of CC they have been seeing should (hopefully) push them to pressure govts & corporations to cut down on emissions. Soon enough, it will be very clear that only the extremely wealthy can afford (in financial terms) to be climate-apathetic. (2/2)
#ClimGeoPSIA
@Gemenne Extremely important question! In today's world, climate apathy is a much bigger problem than denial. Those in industrialised countries can possibly afford to be more climate-apathetic than those much more directly affected, but for how much longer? (1/2)

@Gemenne (2/2)
2 is a personal choice as well, but one that they believe has more far-ranging consequences. I would not think this is the most efficient way to tackle the problem, but I don't entirely disagree with their logic.
#ClimGeoPSIA
@Gemenne (1/2) There are 2 different motivations discussed here:
1. They don't want their children to suffer
2. They don't want the planet to suffer
While I understand the logic of both, 1 is primarily a personal choice that they believe would affect their child
#ClimGeoPSIA
@Gemenne@PSIASciencesPo Is it still a question of honesty then? There was little talk of withdrawal due to the nation's inability to respect their commitments, and far more political posturing. #ClimGeoPSIA
@Gemenne@PSIASciencesPo Unsure if this question can be answered without taking into account the announcement of this decision. "unfairness" to the US is posited as the major factor behind the move, and the US' primary issue seemed to be what other nations supposedly stand to gain. #ClimGeoPSIA
