Merely 82 years ago, 160,000 faces just like these stormed the beaches of Normandy.
Facing the world’s worst and vile aggressor, they summoned the courage to save the world.
We are all free because of their bravery, determination, and belief in liberty, everywhere. #DDay
The largest amphibious invasion in human history began in the dark.
At dawn on June 6, 1944, nearly 7,000 vessels carrying 160,000 Allied troops closed in on the beaches of Normandy.
Through courage and sacrifice, they secured a foothold in Nazi-occupied France and began the liberation of Western Europe.
Today, we honor the heroes of D-Day.

Today, and every time you’re on campus, please visit the #AppState veterans memorial and take a moment to remember our alumni who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
"WHETHER OUR LIVES AND OUR DEATHS WERE FOR PEACE AND A NEW HOPE. OR FOR NOTHING WE CANNOT SAY; IT IS YOU WHO MUST SAY THIS. THEY SAY: WE LEAVE YOU OUR DEATHS. GIVE THEM THEIR MEANING. WE WERE YOUNG, THEY SAY. WE HAVE DIED. REMEMBER US." Archibald MacLeish
#MemorialDay
As we approach Memorial Day, here are some key points in the U.S. Flag Code to help you correctly honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
Under the U.S. Flag Code, the American flag should fly at half-staff from sunrise until noon, then be raised to full staff for the remainder of the day. The split display reflects the purpose of the holiday: the morning hours are reserved for mourning military members who died serving the country. Raising the flag at noon symbolizes resilience and the continuation of the nation they fought to defend.
The flag should never touch the ground, water or anything beneath it
It should not be displayed in severe weather unless it’s an all-weather flag
It should not be used as clothing, drapery or decoration
Using it for advertising or disposable items is discouraged
Worn or damaged flags should be retired in a dignified manner
