Official All Party Parliamentary Group for Vaping account. The APPG exists to explore the most appropriate parliamentary & regulatory response to vaping in UK.
The UK is a global leader on tobacco harm reduction. At this year’s FCTC COP10 we need to make the positive case for vaping as a valuable tool to reduce smoking.
We mustn’t allow the WHO to jeopardise the good work we have done as we aim to go smokefree.

It is also welcome that the Minister stated that these measures are not the final ones and we look forward to working with him so that we use all the tools available to us to help the remaining smokers stop smoking cigarettes.
We welcome yesterday's response to the Khan review.
It is great to see Government policy recognising the key role vapes can play in getting smokers to switch - which in turn will ease pressure on the NHS.
The introduction of the world leading 'swap to stop' scheme is hugely welcome, acknowledging that vapes are 95% less harmful and that they can be used to help smokers switch.
By implementing evidence based measures, the Government has taken a big step towards a smokefree 2030.
As we await the government's response to the Khan review, this is a useful reminder from @markjenkinsonmp that we must continue to acknowledge the significant role that less harmful alternatives can play in securing our smokefree 2030.

@JavedKhanCEO "we must not let the pursuit of perfection become the enemy of the good."
We welcome this report and hope that the Government will be pragmatic in their approach for the TCP to truly address the issue and broaden the opportunities to get smokers off cigarettes.
Just attended the launch of Dr Javed Khan’s review on smoking. Some interesting suggestions on how to reduce levels of smoking across the population including encouraging smokers to switch to far far less harmful vaping, which as chair of @AppgVaping I was very glad to see!
He added: "Reduced risk products, such as e-cigarettes, nicotine pouches and heated tobacco products, play a huge role in encouraging people to transition to less harmful alternatives, and it is right that they are regulated properly to protect young people.”
There is potential here both for a #Brexit dividend - and for levelling up as smoking is one of the great causes of health inequality.. but will the govt be up for taking it? Over to you JRM
This is a fantastic thread.
'They make it harder for smokers to satisfy their addiction through a less harmful alternative. It's insane.'

Vaping has the potential to save millions of lives. Whenever you find a technology like that, the political discussion should framed around one single concept: How do we get out of its way? Instead, it labours under completely pointless regulatory burdens.
'But whilst the evidence to support vaping is clear, smokers’ knowledge of this lags behind the science. Worryingly, this has worsened over time. In 2014, 15% of smokers thought that vaping was as or more harmful as smoking. This figure increased to 32% in 2021.'
'In all, reported volumes of cigarettes sold in Japan have now declined 42 percent compared to 2016 when heated tobacco products went mainstream in the Japanese market.'
See my latest at @InsideSourcesDC on remarkable evidence suggesting smokers switching to heated tobacco products could be translating into real world public health improvements in Japan and Korea. https://t.co/GvHoQkMoId
65% of vapers said they never thought they would quit smoking until #vaping came along. The #VApril website has tonnes of advice to help you make the switch that could see you quitting smoking for good.
