The 500 JMPD Trainee Candidates from the 2025/2026 intake have been in limbo from the 1st of January 2026 which was the expected date to start training at college.
โWe have done a recruitment process within the six months period and now we are not getting a solution. The HOD of public safety together with his team told the Mayor, MMC of Safety, and concerned political parties that we have not completed the process which is false the vetting process was the last stage and was done in December.
On the 7th of April we had a meeting at Martindale with the JMPD Management including the HOD and Chief of Police together with the HR of the City of Johannesburg, and the chief Mr Jaca was given a platform to address us but he said he had nothing to say after when his fellow workers has addressed us
We the candidates went to Martindale numerous times but we were given different stories each time we went there. The PA in the office of the MMC also told us that her child did not make it in the 5km and was eliminated.
Therefore they are pushing the agenda that the post should be re-advertised.โ
The Outcomes:
- They mentioned that the six months has lapsed and to continue with the post they'll be breaking the rules
- Next week, we will receive a clear public announcement about the post but they added that they don't promise anything since the six months has lapsed.
- They further said it is not our problem that the post has expired. So they will have to account for that but the delay was allegedly caused by SAPS when checking the criminal records
- They said they wanted to inform us earlier last year that they won't be continuing with the post but they thought things were going to change but now it's beyond them. They further said that it is 90% vs 10% chance for the post not to be re-advertised.

โWe went through the physical assessment where we ran 5km, we did 30 push ups, 35 sit ups and also jumped over a wall all on the same day which might have been the reason why our two fellow candidates passed away.โ
The trainees also wrote a test, went for an interview, went for the vetting process and after there was a house visit verification. All these stages were completed within 6 months.
โWe the JMPD candidates had hope in serving the city of Johannesburg but the political party currently ruling has failed Us (ANC).โ @JoburgMPD@MYANC@EFFSouthAfrica
We're left with 2 months and several days of grace. Those criminals in martindale took bribes and people who didn't do physical assessment were called for interviews. This country is a joke.
@PublicSafetyMMC@GTP_Traffstats Justice must be served we heard that if June pass without communication no more college. Our efforts thina who managed to get to the last stage.
Corruption led them to not recruit anyone, BUT, what about those who managed to get to the final stage their "efforts". Corruption can't ruin something good just like that for us. Arrest those criminals investigate jmpd just like TMPD. Investigate JMPD ๐๐๐๐ญ
Our efforts meant nothing only for them want to readvertise MPOs post just to accommodate those who paid bribes. Please we need help as candidates who got to the last stage house verification. We can't be left out just like this.
We, the successful JMPD candidates, condemn the lack of accountability and transparency in the recruitment process. @JoburgMPD this is the last time we heard from you.
We fulfilled all requirements, yet face uncertainty. This opportunity meant livelihoods, family support, and contributing to society. We seek justice and action.
Silence is unacceptable ๐
