For Chechens, this Zikr became a powerful symbol of resilience, identity, and spiritual resistance after centuries of war and repression. It offered accessible spirituality and collective strength to ordinary people facing immense hardship. Dismissing it without context ignores how cultural and religious practices often emerge as responses to a community’s lived realities.

That said, it is equally essential to know what is clearly permissible and impermissible in Islam based on the Quran and authentic Sunnah. This loud circular Zikr is a later Sufi development, not a practice from the time of the Prophet (ṣallāLlāhu 'alayhi wa sallam), and remains a point of scholarly debate, some see it as valid spiritual expression, while others view it as bid’ah. True understanding requires both historical empathy and returning to core Islamic sources with sincerity.
