Career Change Announcement (a thread):
For those who do not know, I made the decision to leave academia and start a new position with the Federal Government at the Bureau of Reclamation.
@SJC_fishy This is why left academia. I know a group that published multiple times. It was the same study but different species (could have included the species in the other paper). Inflated the graduate student’s resume. That is the direction I saw academia going in sadly.
I am excited for this new opportunity to do more management work with real world application. My new life starts in Denver, Colorado and I could not be more excited!

I thank my advisors over the years for giving me the skills that I need to succeed. My decision to leave academia is no reflection on you, but a reflection of the overall direction academia seems to be taking.

I fill my Fridays with Bluegrass music. In places, the Mississippi River is filled with Blue Suckers. This big-river fish swims long distances for spawning habitat, putting it at risk of population declines from constructed barriers that block its migrations. #FishyFriday 💙🍭🐟
If you are a job seeker, please report the Fisheries and Aquatic Science Opportunities @HDR_Inc as spam on @LinkedIn. Help spread the word that these are NOT jobs
Hey HDR @HDR_Inc …remove your Fisheries and Aquatic Science Opportunities from @LinkedIn. If you search “fisheries” that is all that shows up. These are not jobs. But a call for interest. Not the same. As a job seeker this makes it difficult to find a job.
I did not get a job that I interviewed for. The person who interviewed me called to let me know. I asked what I can improve on and he gave me great advice. Always ask!
