i was one of the busiest people ever dated but was also the most responsive person.
she once asked me, why do you always reply so quickly?
i said something that no woman will ever forget, i said, communication is a form of respect. if you respect someone, you respond as soon as you can. busy isn’t the problem, lack of priority is... but people don’t forget to respond to those they respect, they choose where their energy goes.
when someone consistently leaves you waiting, you’re probably not as important to them as their words make you believe.
A 13-year-old Canadian kid uploaded R&B covers to YouTube in 2008 from his bedroom. A talent manager named Scooter Braun stumbled on the videos and signed him.
For the next 15 years, Braun controlled everything. Tours, branding, business deals, public image. The kid became the biggest pop star on the planet, sold 150 million records, racked up 32 billion Spotify streams, and had three Diamond-certified singles before turning 25.
Then in 2022, he got hit with Ramsay Hunt syndrome. Partial facial paralysis. Cancelled the world tour. Disappeared from public life entirely.
Here's where it gets interesting.
In January 2023, he sold his entire 290-song catalog to Hipgnosis for $200 million. Every song he'd ever released. "Baby." "Sorry." "Love Yourself." All of it. Gone. At 28 years old, he cashed out his past.
Then he dropped Scooter Braun. After 15 years. No manager. No agent. For the first time in his career, nobody was making decisions for him.
Fast forward to this weekend. Coachella calls. He picks up the phone himself. Rolling Stone confirmed he negotiated his own headlining deal directly with Goldenvoice. No agent commission. No manager cut. $10 million for two weekends, and he kept all of it.
Then he walked onto the biggest stage in music, sat down behind a MacBook, and pulled up YouTube.
He played "Baby" from 2010. He played his bedroom covers from 2008. He harmonized with his 13-year-old self in front of 100,000 people. Katy Perry joked about whether he had YouTube Premium.
Half the internet called it lazy. The other half called it genius.
They're both wrong. It was a receipt.
He sold his catalog for $200 million. He fired the man who discovered him. He negotiated his own deal. And then he went back to the exact platform where it all started and said: I built this from a laptop. I'm headlining Coachella from a laptop. And for the first time in my life, every dollar is mine.
The kid from YouTube just closed the loop.
Two weeks after I got married, my mother in law came for a visit. She had missed our wedding because of a flight issue but came later.
She and I vibed instantly because I had not met her before.
We were inside her room one day, when my husband entered and asked where the laundry I did was, he looked frustrated as he asked for a particular cloth which I had washed
I quickly excused myself from to look for the shirt for him and when I went back to the room, my mother in law asked why I allow him talk to me like that
"Enipe?" 😳
"You're doing his laundry and he still can't look for his clothes himself? What are you? A maid?"
She pulled me closer and said, "see ehn, don't let him turn you to his house girl o, since I got married, I've never done his father's laundry, instead he does mine and I brought him up to be that kind of man, if he's not gon be polite and appreciate your efforts by looking for his clothes after you've washed it, let him wash and fold himself" she said
That was the last time I did his laundry in that house and he has been doing mine
Good mothers in law exist
😭🥹 First thing I see on TikTok is a girl who moved in with her friend for 6 months just to get her life together. Friend told her rent was $350, she paid $400 anyway.
When it was time to move out… the friend handed her ALL $2,400 BACK 😭 and said she never needed the money, it was just to help her SAVE and go handle her business.
MY GOD 🥹 THIS is what love looks like. THIS is grace. THIS is being human.
Her parents had divorced, her mom had got diagnosed with cancer, she was putting her brothers through private school, Prince wouldn’t let her fuck, free was flopping, she came on this bitch with BLOOD in her eyes
This was Pablo Escobar in 1988 where he said that c0c@!n3 wasn’t the real problem, hypocrisy was. He argued drv&$ spread because of demand, just like alc0h0l, and that the U.S. only called c0c@!n3 dangerous because Colombians controlled it.
16 years ago today, Chris Brown dropped his first mixtape “In My Zone” hosted by @DJDrama with many saying it’s his best work
Is this project considered a classic to you? 🤔
People are getting mad at Zayn for saying he was never in love with Gigi (the mother of his child) and sure, that’s wild.
But they’re missing the real lesson here.
He said: “If I had been in love, I would’ve been a better version of myself.”
That’s the entire point, imo.
When a man truly loves you, he doesn’t stagnate. He will upgrade, regulate, become disciplined, idk do whatever is required to fix what’s broken without you having to beg/ask/try.
In my opinion (and Zayn’s words confirm this) love makes a man aspire. It sharpens him, makes him want to build, protect, provide, evolve because he wants to be worthy of the life you’re building together.
You cannot “fix” a man. You shouldn’t. Guy who loves you will fix himself. It’s what they do.
And if he isn’t becoming better with you, he simply isn’t in love.
Lesson in there ✌🏻
Shakira still has the best #SuperBowl performance of all time, not only she sang in different languages, (3 in total) served choreography and played instruments, but she also brought such an underground sound to one of the biggest stages in the world like the Colombian champeta
on some real shit, MTV's Daria was the first time I felt hyper aware of identifying with a show enough that I craved wanting to see what was next. I felt like I was watching myself as a teen and it had me locked in. never forgot it. I was the weird, sarcastic nerdy teen that was actually cool when people took the time to get to know them. Daria made it cool to be an introvert and it was everything to have that representation on MTV of all places. it gave introverts a chance to now be themselves and also be apart of the 'cool kids' because it was something in common. it was a connector. didn't bank on this turning into a love letter for the character, but Daria Morgendorffer and her circle was that important to the culture.
People love to talk about “vocal decline” but ignore the fact that Mariah Carey changed how singers even approach vocals. She set the bar and then got criticized for not clearing her own bar forever. https://t.co/jYAOHZqNEh
You guys don’t understand how bad I would love to get to hear “Las de La intuición” for the very first time, the song it’s a masterpiece, and that bridge at the end ? Can’t explain what it does to me.
