And with the episode on Mutanabbi uploaded to youtube - all our 8 episodes are now up - please subscribe, listen - and let us know any thoughts. What questions do you have? What would you like to see next? https://t.co/Hu6m7nMYjt
Episode 7, on the complex classic Kalilah wa Dimnah - tales within tales told by two jackals, discussing moral, political and social issues. Listen here: https://t.co/42HGkmKuWZ - or wherever you get your podcasts
My latest for @newlinesmag was an epic investigation into why the @britishmuseum has taken Palestine off labels - all that's needed is an open conversation to explain the reasoning, but an email I just received from them show how unlikely it is to happen, which is a real shame 🧵
It turns out that Mutanabbi is the most popular of these 4 new episodes by far - which was quite a surprise to both of us! (We had so much to say about him we had to stop half way through - a Mutanabbi cliffhanger! Watch this space for part 2...)
Our next four episodes have landed!
Episode 5: the Qur'an, with a focus on Yusuf
Episode 6: Abu Nuwas, his wonderful wine poetry and so much else
Episode 7: the dizzying fables of Kalilah wa Dimnah
And last is al-Mutanabbi's crazy life and phenomenal poetry

I've taken a break from arguing with the British Museum to plunge back into history -- the next 4 episodes of @ArabLitPod are now live! I discuss with James Montgomery the Qur'an, Abu Nuwas, Kalilah wa Dimnah and Mutanabbi - listen, like and enjoy!
Listen wherever you get your pods (we're now on an astonishing 18 platforms) - links are all listed here: https://t.co/pMdSIxMEpH
And let us know what you think! (What would you like to see next, for example?)

We call them “Byzantines.” But they knew themselves as the Romans - the “Rhomaoi”
If we begin with “Byzantium,” we are already using a later (albeit useful) label that would have meant little, or even infuriate the people we are describing
Romans, Not “Byzantines”
A thread 🧵
Recording of the next four episodes is done! (One subject was so long it's ended on a cliffhanger and you'll all have to wait for part two - guess who couldn't be contained?!)
A wooden prop in the margins, used to ‘support’ the text that overruns the end of the line - 15th century, Birgitta of Sweden, British Library, Harley MS 612, f. 50r
Kharg is home to the first Christian monastery discovered in the Gulf - it totally rewrote our understanding of the spread of early Christianity. I wrote about this when another was discovered in Siniyya, in the UAE. For @newlinesmag
