FUN FACT: A failed medical does not terminate a football contract. Most people in the industry do not know this. And clubs have been exploiting that ignorance for years.

Under Article 18(4) of the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, once a contract is signed, a failed medical does not undo it. The contract stands and the parties are bound.

This is why timing is important in a transfer, and why clubs are so careful about the order in which things happen.

Here is the trick clubs use. They make the player complete the medical before the contract is signed. Because if they sign the contract first and the medical comes back with a problem afterward, there is nothing they can do. The player keeps the contract regardless of what the medical reveals.

So a smart club never signs first. They examine first, then commit.

I have experienced this in practice. A friend and I had a client who signed for a club. They had even signed a contract.

About a month later they asked him to complete his medical, and it revealed issues with his knee and ankle, the kind that carry a risk of recurring injury. The club tried to terminate the contract on that basis. They had even sent him away from the club.

But we didn’t let them. The contract had already been signed. We took the matter to the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber and won the case on behalf of the player.

The order matters. That’s why clubs make players do medicals before giving them the contracts to sign.

@MafiaWasit Istilahnya kaya di Indonesia juga secara “aturan” kontrak kerja itu MINIMAL sama dengan yang diatur di Permenaker, PP, UU, dll dan hanya bisa disimpangi bila kesepakatannya lebih baik dari ketentuan itu, kalau lebih buruk ya ga dianggap berlaku ketentuan itu/sekontraknya

Klub lama tetap wajib bayar 50jt (selisih) sampai Januari 2028
