I am thrilled to share the news that Fractile's mission to build chips and systems that unlock the next generation of AI scaling has been bolstered, with a $220M funding round led by Accel, Factorial Funds, and Founders Fund, alongside some incredible backers old and new.
AI inference is driving the defining infrastructure buildout of the 21st Century. We've written a bit about where we think capabilities must go, and how Fractile is working to bring this about: https://t.co/L3VTjJjLuL
It has been a privilege working on one of the hardest but most rewarding technical challenges of our time for over three years, with the most brilliant, kind and driven people I could have ever hoped to work alongside.
We are still just getting started. There is a lot to be done to deliver on our goals, but we are grateful to have the support of so many people in chasing these down every minute of every day. Thanks, all, for being part of the Fractile mission! 🚀
@fractile_ai
Some of our best hires were totally unqualified on paper.
They always had the same qualities: entrepreneurial, high agency, smart, mission aligned, and they got shit done.
If you’re hiring, especially in early stages, seek out & bet on these people. Don’t over-index on resumes.
@paulg Must admit I was a bit anxious before I visited SF and California in October, but I knew I had to do it before the 2024 election. Glad I did! Can’t see myself risking a trip over there now, especially with a name like mine :/
@alexfmac lol I don’t hate your project
I don’t get the ageism in it, 25yo is a very low limit. Please explain?
You want to believe I’m a hater, but that’s your insecurity man
@HarryStebbings@Keir_Starmer@RachelReevesMP@MayorofLondon Honestly don’t go political you too. What’s the purpose of this? Popularity in X is really ephemeral, one day you’ll get praised by the far right, the other day you’ll be the devil. Just focus on solutions, not blame games really
I was 20 yo when I discovered that fabricating quotes was *taught* in journalism classes. When I was ridiculously misquoted in a local paper and could not understand why they would do that. Don’t do long or non-scripted interviews with “career journalists”, just the PR dull stuff
I used to find it hard to believe that journalists would fabricate quotes. That wasn't how the heroic journalists in movies behaved. But they do, regularly.
The good news is that Apple Maps is becoming really good. It already does a much better job at navigating (it saved me 40mins in my last trip vs Maps who insisted on a longer route)
Google finally started to monetise Google Maps - which means that I will have to unlearn the “muscle memory” of tapping on the first location on a map to get the route to where I want to go.
How is it helping users to suggest a location that is different to what they search for?
This election looks like it could be very close. The 2000 presidential election was won by just 537 votes. So if you live in a swing state, especially, your vote really matters. Please, please, get out and vote.
@davidwrossiter APR can be 100%. But yeah, they seem to be ignoring a lot of things. Most of the land is not even owned by farmers but by the aristocracy and some corporations. I wouldn’t be surprised if the people behind these accounts are some dukes or princes who don’t want to pay taxes 🙄
Crucial to always admit when one is wrong.
I think Rachel Reeves did a solid job today.
Cap gains movement not too detrimental.
Employers NI right and significant move.
Credit where credit due.
Time to get back to building in the UK. 🚀
@alexgkendall@BillGates@wayve_ai Wondering now, do you have plans to develop the Waymo of London or any other UK city? Or waiting for a partner (Uber or others) to do it? Maybe not possible in current regulatory environment?
It's easy to think that the tech scene in SF and SV is super nerd-friendly because they do so much tech. But I experienced something different: nerds are still looked down. I find tech events in the UK more technical and safer for nerds.
@DakFinGrape I have never met an *entrepreneur* who moved to the UK to pay less taxes. And I have never met a British entrepreneur in the US who moved there because of taxes either.
Taxation is not really important to tech entrepreneurs. But if any tax is worrisome to them, it is likely CGT.
So many founders and engineers I met in Silicon Valley and SF didn’t really like living in the area, and only stayed because they think they have more opportunities there. *London* was often seen as a good alternative, if only they could easily move.
