@smacofsky I mean if she should be able to have an abortion for any reason, which I agree with, surely then she should be allowed to have an abortion because she's ableist or doing eugenics?
@RedOnTheBed1312@Galaxymage5@ersatzgod It is of course entirely up to you to decide what is reasonable and ok for you, but personally I feel someone making a decision that they would never date you without knowing anything about you at all except for a certain immutable characteristic is unreasonable.
@SaferHaywood@ersatzgod Not really, because the argument isn't one of preventing abortion unless you assume in bad faith pro choice people aren't pro choice.
I would argue if those reasons are issues for you you should think carefully before having a child, yes.
@Dextix_LT@Galaxymage5@ersatzgod Well, no, just you're asking for an individual solution to a systemic issue.
I have no interest in forcing people to date people they don't want to. This does not preclude me from wanting systemic changes.
@Dextix_LT@Galaxymage5@ersatzgod ...the solution is to create the type of society where such prejudices and attitudes do not exist.
Look at interracial relationships. We didn't force racist people to date minorities, we made systemic changes and now people are beginning to not make racist dating decisions.
@Dextix_LT@Galaxymage5@ersatzgod I'll be honest idk what that word means but in general I don't believe we solve systemic issues by individual means.
Whilst some stopgap measures to protect marginalised groups are neccesary, ultimately if someone wouldn't date a disabled person solely due to their disability...
Some of yall think the main reason we need to support abortion is to eliminate fetuses with disabilities …….rather than you know……..supporting bodily autonomy
if it’s between an abortion and the parents being awful and not providing appropriate care, i’m fine with the abortion. those parents clearly would’ve either exploited their disabled child for content or simply done the bare minimum. they turned the ABORTION into content… like..
@Dextix_LT@Galaxymage5@ersatzgod This is like saying opposing racism is being at the point of wanting to enforce who we choose to associate with.
I don't want to enforce dating between ableist people and disabled people. That sounds very unpleasant for the disabled.
I think it’s fine to abort if you don’t want/can’t take care of a disabled child, but you all know babies & children can also become disabled after birth, right? If you know you can’t handle it or do not think disabled people are worthy of life, you simply should not have kids.
@Acqulesce_@skunk_bucketss@ersatzgod I'm not being facetious. The difference is important, and not understanding the difference is making people think I'm anti abortion so I'm pretty keen to be clear on that point.
@Galaxymage5@ersatzgod A foetus isn't a child, but it will become a child.
It should be legal to terminate a foetus, but the reason people terminate them is because they become children. In this case, become disabled children.
Also, not wanting to date someone solely because they are disabled is bad.
