While a lot of the stuff we've been working on has been technical, we've also been working on some fan-favourites!
Here's our high-poly of the M203 grenade launcher, tastefully mounted on our M16A1.
(Don't worry, the quadrant sight's coming too.)
We're a good ways into 2026 at this point, so we'll fill you all in on what we've been up to since ushering in the new year!
Featuring: MP5A2 & MP5SD3, Photo Mode, DirectX 12 Implementation, Object-Oriented Scripting Language, and More!

You're probably wondering what we've been up to and to answer that: We've been implementing raytracing using DXR!
Currently this is taking the form of RTAO (Ray-Traced Ambient Occlusion) for better ambient occlusion and lighting, it will be optional for high-end PCs.
Here you can see comparisons with RTAO on, RTAO off, and a visualisation of what the RTAO is doing.
Meet Hedgine, the custom engine that's been powering Afterconflict this whole time. ⚙️
Maps as large as 300km x 300km, built on double precision so the world stays accurate at any scale. Terrain you can carve into with artillery and bulldozers. Skies with reactive volumetric clouds and full atmospheric rendering. All built to make cold war air combat feel real.
This is the tech behind everything you've seen so far, and there's more coming.
Full breakdown here: https://t.co/mpxNmP0Z31
One of the defining traits of Afterconflict is that it's built using a custom engine, and it occurs to us that we haven't properly introduced it to you; let's fix that.
Introducing: Hedgine

The UH-60's introduction into Afterconflict not only comes with a detailed model (of which we still intend to improve upon), but also an entire player-controlled flight model, allowing for sorties across some of the more massive maps we have in store.
How have we done so far?
Our new West German firing range looks different from up here...
Perhaps this not-so-subtle preview shall give some context for what we've been quietly working on recently, and we're excited to show off what else we've got in store for you soon, so stay tuned!
While the aforementioned technical additions of a new lexer and abstract syntax tree parser can't be properly depicted within a social media post, pretty clouds can.
So, for this #ScreenshotSaturday, appreciate the improvements we've made to our volumetric cloudscape raymarcher: a far higher cloud height ceiling, humidity, and anisotropic noise!
With this aerial perspective of a new WIP map, you can see our new implementation of atmospheric global illumination, including such details as light shafts and in-scattering, providing across-the-board visual improvements.
Do any of you happen to recognise where the map is set?
As we plug away at varies pieces of exciting new content you'll no doubt be pleased to see soon, we figured we'd give you a look at the current UI for our photo mode and ask you a question:
Based on this screenshot, what changes/improvements would you like to see made to the UI?
As we reach the end of February we're continuing on making various different pieces of content we hope to show off soon, and before then we've got something to better present them with: Our new photo mode!
What features would you like to see incorporated into it?
We hope you all had a very merry Christmas and are currently having a happy New Year!
As we enter 2026, to ring in the New Year, we now have our early production MP5SD3 in all of its fully-textured, much-loved, mid-1970s glory!
As we all wind down for the year, we have a high-poly early Christmas present for you all!
Most famous for its service in the hands of the Bundesgrenzschutz's GSG 9 unit, this early production MP5SD3 is distinctive in its lack of the handguard seen on later production MP5SDs.
In addition to being mounted on the G3 rifle and MG3's "Feldlafette" tripod, the FERO-Z 51 can be mounted on launchers such as the Panzerfaust 44 and Panzerfaust 3.
While the crosshair is relatively simple, it allows for accurate firing at both stationary and moving targets.
Replacing the MP1, the earliest MP5A2s delivered to the Bundesgrenzschutz in 1966 are characterised by features such as a lack of optic mounting points, a different stock, a different handguard, among others.
Nonetheless, the MP5A2 remains one of the finest SMGs in the world.
The West German Bundesgrenzschutz didn't follow the Bundeswehr in their adoption of the MP2 and MP2A1, instead they adopted the MP5A2 and MP5A3 (replacing the MP1 and DUX-53), the former of which is what we have a WIP high-poly of today!
What do you think so far?
As we're now in the final stint of 2025, today we're going to give you a summary of what we've done throughout the year!
Featuring: Infantry Weapon Modding, T-55A MBT, XM-9 Suppressor, K-51 CS Gas Grenade, FERO-Z 51 Night Scope, and More!

As we're developing a custom engine for Afterconflict, we're continually refining our renderer; among other improvements, one of our newest additions is one that we've frequently been asked about: distant shadows!
Here you can see our village map with said new shadows; thoughts?
Some of you have been curious about the historicity of our DM51 Geballte Ladung, so here's an excerpt from a Bundeswehr training tape showing its usage!
While far removed from the anti-tank role of its predecessor, the DM51 bundle charge still finds relevance among pioneers.
