OKies.. am finally 100% live on Mastodon! :D Only other news to report is that, well, I was in the hospital due to a mild heart attack and had bypass surgery.
Anyway, I'll be following more federated peeps soon. Reply if you're out there!
@LashynTheDragon Yeah, it's just another trick to try to keep Moore's law going, but it's a trade-off tech. Quality for speed.
"But you won't notice it!" Yeah, you will, the loss of fidelity is painfully obvious, at least to me.
@Tarkirr I feel your pain. Still trying myself, and will likely still be trying when I finally leave this misty ball.
The journey is the challenge, though. Make the best of it.
I wish you all the luck in the world! :D
@LeviCurrie ..and I won't get into the HORRIBLE fat-vs-carb situation which has pretty much caused far more disease and suffering than anything in modern history.. which "actual medicine" just treats the symptoms of.
@LeviCurrie I also know that alternative treatments for certain kinds of cancer also work. I have family members who have had great success, extending their lives by more than a decade when "actual medicine" told them they had 6 months to live or less.
@LeviCurrie I do use chiropractic for pain relief, and it does work. I can't speak to the woo aspects of it, because I refuse to participate in them, but as a source of physical therapy, it is effective.
@LeviCurrie I tend to agree for some of the practices listed, but I don't give modern medicine the pass people think it deserves. Yes, it has progressed and helped a lot of people live longer, happier lives, but not all practices under its umbrella are well-researched or evidence-based.
@LeviCurrie Dunno. I would take "doing nothing" over "doing harm" from so-called "actual medicine". :)
Still, I think that everyone should do diligent research for their own health choices and not take anything anyone says at face value, including modern practitioners.
@LeviCurrie Basically, there is a lot of hooey and woo to go around, even in modern medicine. The problem with modern medicine is that it is often difficult to dig it out by the roots when it is shown to be wrong and harmful. It becomes "established" and unassailable.
@LeviCurrie It does seem like a potpourri, but there is some value in actual traditional medicine practices. After all, a lot of today's pharmaceuticals originally come from natural sources or traditional remedies.
I also have issues with modern medicine, as often it is poorly researched.
@RaealTheProto@VRChat Second Life has (had) the same problem. "Copybot" was the term used for ripping assets on that platform, and it never really has gone away. It's an endemic problem of the system that cannot be practically be eliminated, but it can be made more technically challenging for rippers
@RaealTheProto@VRChat They can never truly stop ripping, since you can always intercept content at any point in the asset download/management/rendering pipeline. However, they can delay it as much as they can to make it more difficult to reconstruct. The closer to the hardware, the more "raw" it is.
@NoctemTenebris I am always trying to encourage my mate to work on her skills, though. She has a great deal of creativity and unpolished talent, and she's always improving. :)
@NoctemTenebris Unfortunately no, we've drifted a bit from that part of the family. So it was more of a thing in my youth. My stepfather passed earlier this year. :-/
