@ProfitGreenly @bobbyllew But, that is also an issue with diesel cars, so its possibly moot. Hopefully leasing agencies will carry the EV truck type things when they get to the UK markets
@ProfitGreenly @bobbyllew Although if I am honest, although the savings with an EV are a bonus, its not that that motivates me, its the longer term impact. The financial restraint for me is around initial outlay rather than ongoing. I'd need no car for a few years to save at the mo (for truck that is!)
@ProfitGreenly @bobbyllew Funny you should say that 🤣 We currently have a small petrol car which is due to go back in the next 2 months, and we are replacing with an ebike as 2 cars are not viable for us these days.
@Synchronicity34@bobbyllew Yeah, I'm still gonna say that in response to my reply to Bobby's tweet this adds absolutely nothing, but feel free to drop it somewhere else where someone is actually confused about what the general progression of the EV transition is.
@Synchronicity34@bobbyllew I shall rephrase, 'unless your thread points out that an ev towing car is available on my budget this year, it contributed diddly squat to the thread that resulted from my response to Bobby's initial tweet and the issues it raised. Better??
@Synchronicity34@bobbyllew Pray tell me more about my needs & their 'proper place' 🙄 I KNOW its coming, but unless your thread points out that a ev towing car is available on my budget this year, it contributes diddly squat to my thread, which is about the 'excuses' some of us legitimately face this year.
@eleonorasfalcon @brooktop68 @bobbyllew Yeah, that's another of their drawbacks. You also tend to get fairly when when it rains I find, and they don't come with pre installed lights for after dark 😆
@Synchronicity34@bobbyllew Why though? What relevance does this have to anything anyone has said here? I am well aware of my own needs and how they are currently served, and what the direction is. My tweet was a personal response to a statement, not a reflection on EV transition as a concept?
@Synchronicity34@bobbyllew Yes. I heard that. I still don't see how that validates the statement there is 'zero excuse' not to buy elecric if buying a new car this year though? Clearly there are valid use cases still not covered, thus excuses > zero, no? It may be semantics, but...
@Synchronicity34@bobbyllew My initial response to Bobby was one of regret that I can't change yet. I WANT the electric towing truck, and I want to be able to change. I don't especially like being 'laughed at' or told my actual real life situation is unreasonable though.
@Synchronicity34@bobbyllew Yes, we've discussed all that at length, but it doesn't really help the statement that there is 'no reason' not to go electric this year. The existence of EV reluctants does not negate the real needs of people who are not yet served and might otherwise change if they could.
@brooktop68 @eleonorasfalcon@bobbyllew The cost saving benefits do seem huge. Its the initial outlay that frightens most folk I think (along with the 'newness'). But petrol cars seem to get more pricy every minute too...
@eleonorasfalcon @brooktop68 @bobbyllew Honestly though, same could be said for my regular car. Cars are a hideous, inconvenient expense all round in my experience... 😬
@brooktop68 @1sthand2@bobbyllew Well thinking back to my first petrol car vs what I have now, a hell of a long way I hope! 🤣 (I miss the LED dash and the lack of electronics to fail occasionally though 😉 )
@brooktop68 @1sthand2@bobbyllew Of course none of this is a reason not to push ahead, but I hope we can see huge shifts in both the technology and the affordability before the time comes.
@brooktop68 @1sthand2@bobbyllew Absolutely, but in locations like ours where its a crofter economy and many crofters are low income, investing in new kit is tough, and cars of any type are hideously expensive anyway. We have to be careful we don't adversely affect those who already struggle with costs.
@brooktop68 @1sthand2@bobbyllew Something will come along I am sure, but I do worry that without serious thought and investment the rural/agricultural community could be disproportionately penalised when the new regs come in. Still 2030 is a way off yet and technologies move fast, so.
