I want there to be a resource for archaeologists to determine appropriate wages and opinions of CRM companies. I am hoping with enough sharing we may be able to gain a foundational understanding for upcoming and professional archaeologists in the field.https://t.co/J9hNYJtg0y
The safety of CRMs and Techs in the field should be a foremost concern, especially as the weather becomes more extreme. This is a sad, senseless, and preventable tragedy.
I’m saddened and angered to hear that archaeologist, Kaylen Gehrke, passed away from heat injuries on the job during a crm archaeology survey. Please consider supporting her family during this tragedy. And please look out for each other in the field.
@anthrobeth In the beginning, I didn't ask for any demographic data since all of the results could be viewed by anyone. I am considering updating the survey to include it once it's rehosted. Any suggestions are welcome!
Thank you to everyone that has submitted their experiences on working in archaeology! As I am still working on creating an anonymous data visualization website for everyone, I wanted to update the general results thread from the now almost 200 responses!
Note that while respondents love their coworkers and feel that their employers have good views on archaeology, they all cite poor work/life balance, low pay, and lack of benefits as major cons.
Again, thank you to everyone for sharing! I apologize for how long it has taken to create a platform for everyone to view the anonymous data. This is a project I am doing in my personal time so we all know how slim that can be in this industry.
When asked of their pros and cons of the previous or current company. These selections remain roughly the same as the previous results. It is worth noting that not all respondents selected cons.
I want to thank everyone for sharing this survey across the archaeology and CRMarch industry! We've gotten a lot of responses recently, but I want to explain a recent change I have made.🧵
I am going to be working on a way to make the data as anonymous as possible but also open access so people can see company reviews or an average salary range for a certain role or position.

Based on current responses, the biggest 'pro' to a #CRMarch environment is coworkers (70%) and company views on archaeology (68%). The highest 'con' selected at 66% was the pay rate. Please continue sharing this survey to help promote wage transparency!

I've heard many stories that imply hiring managers have no understanding of how negotiations should actually work. They seem to think workers want the lowest amount? In what world?
