Because they took care of all that in 1, 2 is allowed to really stretch its wings out in terms of story and focus on being a compelling narrative made more impactful by all the work done to suck you into the world by DS1. Carving words into the page that was established.

Finished Death Stranding 2, it felt the most emotionally intelligent and complex of Kojimas games. He really was baring his heart and showcasing all his regrets, feelings, hopes and desires for himself and humanity as a whole in the coming avalanche of societal change. Loved it.

Death stranding 1’s strength to me was thrusting you blind into this weird, apocryphal, heavy world, but as a result it was saddled with having to spend the majority of the runtime fleshing out and setting up the world building, the story kind of being a vague current pushing you

Love how Kojima decided to put some silly and entertaining stuff back in Death Stranding 2 compared to 1 which felt more serious overall, I can see how people were saying this entry felt more spiritually metal gear especially with the better stealth, combat, and mecha design.
