When I read a story I try to read 5 or 6 different sources, especially political stories where bias is legendary. I've then got a decent general overview.

I'm finding a lot of traditional media varying now from basic, factual reporting ( local news) to completely inverted analysis of what I can see, hear and compute with my own eyes. The latter isn't news, it's lying, and lying in "trusted" news media means propaganda.

I used to take what BBC news, C4 News ( especially) Sky News, a mixture of broadsheets, political bias magazines ( New Statesman and Spectator) as mostly truthful with a smattering of owner bias, Editor political bias etc.

Now I do not trust any of the above on any story, including special investigations. Why? The last year the British media has parroted government policy on almost all foreign policy instead of questioning it, and special investigations seem to now exclusively be only done when the broadcaster or outlet believes the public will broadly support its outcome.

I've yet to see a special investigation on Boris Johnson's foreign political relationships, for example, nor where British taxpayers money goes regarding foreign governments or contracts for individuals. Why? They're protected and off limits.

I also don't trust many independent journalists either, especially here as they are far from independent. Many in the pay of foreign governments or hostile actors.

It leaves journalism as an industry in peril, and that's a huge worry because we all should read or watch something that is true, that's what journalism is.

But when you watch something with your own eyes, corroborated by many others, then it's game over.

I'm no idiot, I can see things clearly, often I'll keep quiet for, to be honest, my own safety ( I know many journalists in sport and news who've been cancelled, threatened, doxxed and are genuinely scared), maybe not the bravest approach but mrvral health anxiety already comes with built in fear so putting myself constantly on the line ( I have many times over the years on here and felt the fury, it's not nice) is wearing and leaves you cast aside and seen as an outcast. So I'm comfy in that place now.
