@robnitm I'm sure I saw it on Channel 4 in the mid-1980s. I've certainly seen it but never at a cinema and I left the UK in 1988, so it has to have been before then.

@Robin_W_1 Agreed. He's been the main man for seven years. Even Cantona was only there for five. Time for him to move on and coin it in Saudi or MLS after putting in an excellent - but now clearly fading - shift.
@Robin_W_1@Iric_WatchMe He is Spanish, though, and Utd is still viewed almost with awe in Spain, way more than any other PL club, including Liverpool and Chelsea (recent relative trophy hauls notwithstanding). I think any Spanish manager would lap up the chance to coach United, Juve, AC Milan or Bayern.
@Robin_W_1@kylehedder I see Emery as a potential Ron Atkinson figure. He might not be the new Busby/SAF figure, but he could come in and do the job Big Ron did for a few years to stop the musical chairs and build a solid, competitive team that actually wins stuff.
@Ipsedixitissim1@OliverKamm@TheScotsman Good point. Singular "they" with a non-gendered or unidentified referent is fine - it's been standard English for centuries - but "they" for specific individuals who happen to identify as non-binary is not only twee nonsense but it can also be an open goal for misunderstanding.
@OliverKamm@TheScotsman Exactly this. You, for example, may "prefer" to be referred to as "Mr Kamm", but if others talking about you call you "Ol' Olly" or "that Kamm bloke", you have no right to object. The stylings, nicknames and pronouns others may use to refer to you are none of your business.
@OliverKamm@TheScotsman I've never understood "they" as a "preferred pronoun". It's third person, so it's not used to address the person directly. Acknowledging someone's preference in direct conversation with them is polite, but it's not binding on others talking among themselves about the person.
@lennylaw I've just checked out what my West End favourite one in the '80s now is. Still a café, of sorts, but by no means a proper caff. The cheapest coffee costs three quid and the most basic food on offer is a "tuna melt". Country's gone.
@mediadeBelmonte@Alamares_largos Es como lo de pinchar el hocico varias veces con el descabello para que baje la cabeza. Sé que no es para tanto, pero me parece una falta de respeto.
@JeremyDuns This season is a big disappointment for me. They've merged two of the books into a single story that makes very little sense. Not so much plot holes as plot Mariana Trenches.
@CraSh_Williams@anon_opin That's more or less the system in place in Spain: all drivers aged 18-64 must pass a reflexes/eyesight test every ten years to renew their licence, or every five years for those aged 65+.
@deminimismusic@JeremyDuns Most real spooks' negative views of le Carré have been annoyance at his focus on the negativity, cynicism and mediocrity he saw there, not that what he wrote was unrealistic. (And what special insight about what the Broadway-era Six was like would a career GCHQ guy have anyway?)
@jonmikesav8 I'm confidently expecting "the Metropolitano Massacre" to become a fixed part of United lore, like "99", "the Cup semi-final replay against Arsenal" or "the Kung-Fu kick".
@NeoMorantista Hoy veo solo dos posibilidades: saldrá o por la puerta grande o bajo un diluvio de almohadillas. Ningún término medio. Que sea la primera (aunque la segunda también tiene sus cositas).
