Time Together as Family: Despite all the demands tied to my new calling, preserving time to be a husband and a father remains an absolutely important part of my life.

As Christine and I gear up for what will be a very busy fall schedule, we're so grateful we had time together with our family this summer.

I love what President Henry B. Eyring’s taught during a BYU speech titled “Child of Promise.” It has helped guide my thinking for our stewardship of family, Church callings, and professional responsibilities.

“Time passes at a fixed rate and we can’t store it. You can just decide what to do with it or not to do with it. . . . Time is the property we inherit from God, along with the power to choose what we will do with it.”

This week, Valérie and I celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary.

It feels like just yesterday that we first met.

I can still remember the excitement and sweet feelings we shared as we began dating. Very quickly, we knew we were meant for one another—not just for this life, but for all eternity.

From the beginning, nothing brought us more joy than simply being together. We cherished every moment.

I remember one day in particular—we had nothing planned, nowhere to be, and chose to do nothing at all, quietly hoping time might slow down.

Today, that memory makes me smile.

How tender—and a little ironic—it seems now that we once wished time would slow, when an eternity together awaited us.

This mortal life is a precious moment of eternity—a time to learn, to grow, and to prepare to live with our Heavenly Father as eternal families.

The commandments of God provide the guiding and steadying force in our lives.

As we honor covenants by keeping God’s commandments, His promised blessings enable us to soar to celestial heights.

In His infinite wisdom and compassion, the Lord answers across the needs, hopes, and circumstances of our lives in His time and way.

This is the Lord’s promise: As we seek with genuine intent to listen and hearken, He can whisper by His Spirit to our heart and mind.

We are His children. In infinite and eternal wisdom and compassion, God our Eternal Father and His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, love and listen and hear and answer us—always.

My thoughts and heartfelt prayers are with all those affected by the devastating wildfires in France and Spain. Having lived much of my life in one of the hardest-hit regions of France, the destruction caused by these fires is deeply personal to me and to many members of my family.

We pray for the families who have suffered loss, for those who have been displaced, and for the courageous first responders who continue to serve with remarkable faith and selflessness.

Some of our chapels have been opened to those affected by the fires, providing shelter, food, essential supplies, and compassionate support to those in need.

In moments of uncertainty and sorrow, I know we can find peace in the assurance that our loving Heavenly Father is mindful of each of us. He knows our individual needs as well as our collective burdens. As we turn to Him, the Holy Spirit can comfort our hearts and help us feel the Savior's sustaining love and power through even the most difficult days.

Last year, my wife Valérie and I had the opportunity to spend a few unforgettable days hiking the breathtaking trails of the Dolomites in northeastern Italy. It was a powerful reminder of the beauty and wonder of God’s creations.

There are few things more energizing than being immersed in nature while actively using our bodies.

Experiences like this deepen our gratitude toward our Heavenly Father—not only for the natural beauty around us but also for the incredible gift of our physical bodies.

One meaningful way we express that gratitude is by caring for all that God has entrusted to us: the earth, our own health, and the physical and emotional well-being of others.

The faith and sacrifice of the pioneers are not merely part of our history. They are part of our heritage as a covenant people. 

Today we honor those faithful Latter-day Saint pioneers who established homes, communities, and temples in the mountain West—including those who labored for 40 years to build the Salt Lake Temple. Their efforts were motivated by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and trust in His promises. 

As we celebrate Pioneer Day, we express gratitude for all who have helped build the Lord's kingdom, both past and present. Their examples remind us that discipleship requires faith, sacrifice, and steadfastness in keeping sacred covenants.
