In considering differences— how do dynamics look for adopted children? They may have more hesitations trusting and attaching, but adoption is such a blessing. Parental support is essential in allowing these children to form bonds and a sense of identity in their lives. ✈️

What can we do to help?
We must fight for family rights!
❤️ Increase access to affordable childcare, healthcare, and education
❤️ Provide extended paid family leave
❤️ Normalize diverse families
❤️ Choose support over stigma
Children deserve nutrition and stability!

[arden causey @ArdenCausey]

How does this apply? It is evident that different cultures and incomes result in varying support systems. Parents of all backgrounds must learn to adjust to best support their children, as this will determine their emotional regulation and behavior. Defy any stigmas! #sharetheluv

Obviously, there are many factors that play into family success, but there are societal and racial barriers that make it harder for some families than others. Children’s living is closely tied to emotional and economic stability, which is highly dependent on parental support. 👥

[arden causey @ArdenCausey]

For our final topic, we will discuss race, status, and interactions with family structure. Black children are least likely to live with married parents (37.7%), and the poverty rate is much higher for those with two unmarried parents. These families must fight harder to flourish.

[arden causey @ArdenCausey]

Shockingly enough, divorce rates are on the decline, and the stats deem the rates are closer to 1/3 than the previous 1/2 📉. Parental repartnership can also help children fill the parental role they may feel like they’ve lost. Cordiality between these two parties is ideal! 🤝

[arden causey @ArdenCausey]

Now for an opposing topic: divorce. Divorce goes beyond the parents— it majorly influences the child. Their ability to transition depends on age, temperament, contact, and conflict. In this trying time, children need continual support from BOTH parents. #takes2 #stability 💔

[arden causey @ArdenCausey]

What does this mean for families?
Family dynamics are shifting, and more children live without “traditional” parents. More kids are living with only one parent— almost 5% with their dad👨‍🍼. It was found that 58% of children live with unmarried or cohabitating parents. #familystats

[arden causey @ArdenCausey]

For our first topic, we are going to focus on marriage. 👩‍❤️‍👨 Did you know that the average age for first marriage is now 28 for women and 30 for men? Married life looks a lot different than it did in the ‘60s, and people are getting married less than ever before. 💍❤️

Hello lovelies! Today we are going to discuss family structure 🧑‍🧑‍🧒 As society changes, so do family dynamics. What does life look like for families of diverse backgrounds and experiences? 🌎 #familyfirst

[arden causey @ArdenCausey]

What does this mean for parents and society?🤱

Children are highly impressionable, and each interaction is impactful on their future. Parents and communities must learn to adapt and grow alongside children to ensure emotional security and make meaningful connections. #takecare

Considering Differences 👫

As mentioned, each child is unique in their experiences. Cultural norms around caregiving may influence how parenting and attachment looks. Those from Latinx backgrounds prioritize strong family systems, which fosters stronger dependence. #fam

[arden causey @ArdenCausey]

Why does this matter? 🤔

Not all children are the same, but strong parental support and secure attachment provides all children with a sense of happiness, comfort, and trust. Parents must provide both affection and attention to their children to see them truly flourish.

Topic 3: Temperament 😇

Children respond to situations differently, and their ability to regulate their emotions is heavily determined by temperament. Temperament is a combination of nature and nurture. Some babies are easygoing, while others may be more shy or temperamental.

Topic 2: Harlow's Studies 🐵

In the 1950s, Harry Harlow conducted research to investigate dependency. It was found that monkeys prefer a cloth mother's comfort over a wire mother's food. This displays how relationships go beyond material gain, as children seek emotional support.

[arden causey @ArdenCausey]

Most children have secure attachment styles, which allows them to explore the world with confidence in knowing they have a caregiver to provide them with consistent support. #parenting ❤️

Topic 1: Attachment Styles

Ainsworth's 4 primary attachment styles:
1. Secure (65%): seeks comfort from secure base
2. Insecure Avoidant (23%): acts indifferent
3. Insecure Resistant (12%): anxious and distressed
4. Disorganized (10%): inconsistent behavior

[arden causey @ArdenCausey]

In the 1970s, psychologist Mary Ainsworth conducted the strange situation experiment where children were left alone to play, then were later reunited with their mothers. Their response to the mother's return determined their attachment style.

[arden causey @ArdenCausey]

To preface this topic, it must be made known that the nurturing relationships between a child and their leading figures serve as the foundation for how they learn to connect with other individuals and interact with their environment.🌎🌎🌎

In today's discussion of child development, the focus is on attachment and socialization! 🫂🫂🫂
