For anyone who forgot, this is what the African Union itself determined regarding Somaliland:
“The fact that the union between Somaliland and Somalia was never ratified and also malfunctioned when it went into action from 1960 to 1990, makes Somaliland's search for recognition historically unique and self-justified in African political history.”
Somaliland is a democratic country that upholds free elections, free speech, and the rule of law. It protects vital global shipping routes from piracy, secures its territory from terrorism and violence, and respects the rights of all its people.
Yet Somalia’s failed system—defined by instability, militancy, piracy, and terror—seeks to deny Somalilanders their right to self-determination.
It is astonishing that a U.S. official would oppose Somaliland’s success while defending that failure.

The recognition of the Republic of Somaliland has entered an irreversible phase, grounded in empirically observable realities including its distinct historical trajectory, overwhelming domestic legitimacy demonstrated through sustained public support, effective and democratic governance, demonstrated state capacity and long-term stability.
My country’s (Somaliland) strategic land and maritime location along critical international sea lanes, untapped natural resource potential, and the growing convergence of rational foreign policy interests, evidenced by Israel’s recognition, which increasingly leads credible international actors to acknowledge that Somaliland’s de facto and de jure statehood is incompatible with any serious characterization of it as part of Somalia’s failed state system and instead positions its recognition as a pragmatic and stabilizing outcome for regional security, economic development, and global strategic competition.
After losing its sovereignty just days after gaining independence in 1960, enduring 30 years under Somali regimes, and spending 35 years striving to restore its statehood, Somaliland’s long journey has finally reached a historic milestone.
Congratulations to the people of Somaliland.
Thank you to the State of #Israel for recognizing Somaliland.

Thank you @SenTedCruz for supporting #Somaliland’s re-recognition. U.S. recognition would be a historic step, enhancing security in Africa and the Middle East, and a great strategic opportunity for advancing American interests in the Horn of Africa. #Somaliland#rerecognition#US #Africa
Tonight, we hosted a public forum in Burco, Somaliland, titled “The Developmental Stagnation of Burco: Existing Challenges and Potential Solutions.” The participants discussed key development challenges, including decentralization, the role of the central government, and accountability. They also shared thoughtful ideas and practical solutions to address the city's developmental gaps.
Here is a piece of news worth remarking and celebrating:
106 female teachers graduated today from the Somaliland National Teachers' Training Institute - the third batch of female-only teachers since scheme was launched.
Another milestone in Somaliland's inclusive, democratic state-building.

By rejecting Taiwanese travel documents, Somalia’s government bows to China’s unreasonable demands and claims sovereignty over Somaliland. But territory more firmly in its control remains a hub for arms traffickers and militants. The contradiction is clear. https://t.co/gGlshz0brI
Inside the British Embassy in Mogadishu: A Stark Contrast with Hargeisa, Republic of Somaliland.
Contrary to conventional expectations, there is no fully functioning British embassy structure in Mogadishu, Somalia. There are no permanent buildings, no open diplomatic quarters, and no traditional offices. What exists instead is a heavily fortified compound made up of converted shipping containers, serving as makeshift offices and accommodation for British diplomats.
These 8-meter by 2-meter reinforced containers are where British staff not only work but also live and sleep. The UK ambassador to Somalia @MikeNith1 , like every other member of the diplomatic team, resides in one of these container units under constant security lockdown.
Now, let us consider the British diplomatic presence in Hargeisa @HeadBritOffice , Somaliland. In stark contrast to the isolated, militarized containers in Mogadishu, the British office in Hargeisa offers a secure but open and accessible environment. Diplomats breathe fresh air, move freely, and engage with local partners in a stable and peaceful capital that has enjoyed decades of homegrown governance and security.
This comparison is not just about buildings, it is a reflection of reality on the ground. While Somalia remains encased in conflict and instability, Somaliland stands as a testament to the success of Somaliland’s democratic institutions, peace, and self-reliance.
It is time the world acknowledged the facts on the ground.
“We hope that the United States may be the first country to recognize Somaliland.” — H.E. Abdirahman Abdillahi at #WorldGovSummit , on the importance of international recognition for Somaliland’s future.

After 13 years of unimaginable suffering, the brave Syrian people have triumphed! The tyrant Assad has fallen—a degrading end to a ruler who turned Syria into a tragedy of displacement and death.
May Allah bless and have mercy on the Syrian people and all our Muslim brothers struggling for their freedom in Palestine and elsewhere. May Allah unite the Muslim Ummah and guide us to justice and peace. Every tyrant's fall is inevitable. Ameen. #Syria #Freedom #Assadgone
