@TheGingerPerks 1 is much more linear and less like the later games, but definitely worth a play. 2 kinda set the stage for what the later games would be like, but 3 is really where the series hit its stride. Just don't play New Dawn before 5 as it's an actual continuation to that story.

@Mogssu This same feature has been in FF since FF4, it's called ATB or Active Time Battle. ATB gave each character their own internal clock allowing enemies to react even if you didn't input a command. It was designed to add more realism to the battles in the game.
