[The untold ordeal of Gen Rabe’s Widow, Hajiya Amina]
The source explained that Hajiya Amina told them that shortly after her husband’s death, the kidnappers who had abducted them became agitated and panicked.
She said, “Not long afterward, they brought motorcycles and began making urgent preparations to flee. They placed me on one of the motorcycles and left the location where I had been held with my husband, moving in a convoy. From the way things unfolded, they seemed more focused on me than on the other abductees, as they made no effort to evacuate the others.”
According to her, while the kidnappers were speeding through the forest on motorcycles to avoid a confrontation with soldiers, they began hearing gunfire in the distance.
She added that this confused the kidnappers, causing each of them to take a different route instead of continuing together.
She further stated that the motorcycle carrying her broke down along the way. The rider then forced her off the motorcycle and, in anger, shot her in the thigh before fleeing and leaving her behind.
The source said that Hajiya Amina bled heavily as she lay in severe pain.
“She could neither stand nor walk because of the gunshot wound. It was in this condition that a man from a nearby village found her,” the source said.
The source added, “According to Hajiya Amina, the man asked her what had happened, and she explained her ordeal. At the time, she was extremely distressed, gasping for breath and sweating profusely.”
The man then asked her, “Are you General Rabe’s wife?” She replied yes.
She said that while the man was trying to help her, they heard gunfire nearby, believed to be from soldiers searching the area to rescue her.
As a result, the man fled for his own safety. A few minutes later, soldiers arrived and found her lying in a pool of blood.
The source said the soldiers were overjoyed when they discovered that she was General Rabe’s wife.
It was also reported that Hajiya Amina told them that the man who had first found her returned after the soldiers arrived.
“The soldiers had no medical evacuation equipment with them—only their weapons. So they asked the man to bring a wooden plank, which they used as a stretcher to carry Hajiya Amina to their vehicle. From there, they took her to a hospital in a neighboring town for first aid before she was later transferred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Katsina.”
It was also learned that Hajiya Amina’s gunshot wound was not life-threatening, as the bullet did not fracture her thigh bone.
“The bullet passed through the flesh of her upper thigh, between the hip and the knee. However, because she was losing a great deal of blood, her life could still have been in danger,” the source said.
