Few thoughts on this. Please note I have zero inside info:

1. Josh and Hayden are going to be fine, I promise. More than fine. When you're among the best at what you do, there are always opportunities.

2. Underdog (the company) is trying to hit a home run. They successfully raised money at a $1.2 BILLION valuation last year.

3. In today's landscape, you do not hit a home run through fantasy or best ball. For example, Best Ball Mania generates $1.8M in rake. That's 0.15% of the valuation.

4. In today's landscape, you CAN hit a home run through sportsbook. And you can acquire customers through content.

4a. The problem is really good fantasy content generates a really thoughtful/sharp audience, an audience that is very capable of winning. That audience isn't welcome at most sportsbooks. In other words, the worst form of content that attracts the worst audience... that's what works for sportsbooks.

5. Of course, Underdog is leaning into prediction market product. I actually think prediction markets are a perfect content/marketing partner for shows that have sharp audiences. These audiences are limited massively at sportsbooks, are price-sensitive, willing to put up a lot of liquidity, and are sophisticated enough to grasp the inner-workings of PMs.

6. I've learned a ton about business since we started ETR in 2019. Perhaps my biggest takeaway is that once a company takes professional investment money, things almost always get harder. They might have to start making decisions with profit/loss as the north star. It's difficult to say, "hey we'll make less money with this decision, but it's just the right thing to do" when there are shareholders expecting and demanding ROI.

7. As with a lot of things in life, it's about tradeoffs. We've always tried to just hit singles, maybe leg out an occasional double. But we also never had a $1.2B valuation. Ton of respect for the companies going for the home run, it's just a totally different game than we are playing.

8. I do not think this means Underdog is ignoring or giving up on Best Ball. The product remains great. I'd also add that UD's meteoric rise forced DK and other sites to put a ton more effort/resources into their Best Ball. And that is a huge win for the drafting community.
