Unless we hire Thomas Brown as our head coach next year, Caleb williams will have 3 different head coaches and 3 offensive coordinators in 2 years. Is that considered breaking the spell or adding to it? We'll find out next year. #BearDown@ChicagoBears
@ChicagoBears This just shows that management has no clue what they're doing. Before today, I would understand why the Bears would let him pick another HC, but at this point, Poles has super-glued himself to Flus. He hamstrung himself by giving Flus a 5-yr contract and knows he has to eat it.
This is unacceptable. The bears are just disappointing at this point. I expected a competitive team, not a winning one, and we can't even do that. The team can't stand losing much longer with this talent.
@EAMaddenNFL When are you going to make @NBAxJay1 an ❌️-Factor? It's disrespectful that he's one of the best CB in the game and he doesn't get any love. He's earned the ⭐️!!! #BearDown
@2KEVlN They just entered their competitive window... Why does everyone say, "WIN NOW"? did anyone expected them to win it all this year? This year, be happy with making the playoffs, maybe even a PO win, but Super Bowl bound??? No Way. Draft and build in house.
@Kev_WCG@ChicagoBears I never understood how people saw greatness in him. He had really good WR playmakers around him and a LEGENDARY DEFENSE. Not to mention the best RB in the league at the time! Wilson was Mid, and that trade package would've sent the bears back to the dark ages. #beardown
@Jake_B30 I was a JF supporter until the day he got traded. I always told people, "If they're on my team, they've got my fandom". This is your fandom. You root the way you want to! #BearDown
People continue to ask me what the differences are between this year's offense at camp vs last years.
Justin vs Caleb. Getsy vs Waldron.
Well, 1st off I honestly would say it felt like there more completions last or maybe less incompletions because there wasn't an emphasis to push the ball downfield. Everything was side to side. There were days where Justin had very good 7 on 7s but all the passes were checkdowns.
This year, as I've said, they are attacking all 3 levels of the field in a much more balanced way. You're seeing slip screens, rollouts to the flat, checkdowns to the RBs. Different arm angles to create unique catches. Swift making nice adjustments on some tricky catches as well.
MOF throws consist of some really nice post routes where Caleb has shown conviction with his anticipation and fastball. He has real zip on throws when he wants to. Gerald Everett, DJ Moore and Keenan Allen seem to be the beneficiary of many of these throws I've seen at the 6 practices I've been to. I've seen more than a few throws where Caleb exhibits nice touch over a Linebacker hands as well.
We've seen many throws downfield in comparison to last year. It's not even close to be honest. Bombs to DJ, Rome, Scott, Everett. On the move on a 3 levels, Caleb is deadly in terms of velocity and accuracy. But the deep throws on the move are the most impressive in terms of difficulty. His back shoulder throws show a good sense of placement. His over the top bombs do a nice job of leading the receiver and making it a very catchable ball.
Time will tell but Waldrons offense seems to want to spread it out more to different weapons and different areas of the field. As opposed to the side to side screen game and quick passing game last year with Getsy which felt like DJ or bust.
In terms of Caleb vs Fields. It's clear Caleb has a quicker release and a cleaner throwing motion. Both have shown different arm angles in practice but Caleb definitely seems to have some more tricks in his bag. He had an underhand throw to the RB in the middle flat that was definitely some school yard Mahomes/Rodgers stuff. Caleb's pocket presence is night and day vs Fields. The way he maneuvers in the pocket is impressive. A good dropback with a sense of where the pressure is coming from (and it's been coming at him ALOT in camp) climbs the pocket well, shuffling his feet the way you see some of the great QBs do, sliding left to right to open throwing windows up or a running lane to leave. He also does a good job of ducking his shoulders or keeping the ball out in front of him with 2 hands to avoid the pass rush the shows his sense of ball security.
Caleb and Fields both have very good velocity with their fastball. That's very similar. What's different for Caleb is his touch throws. He does a really nice job of throwing the change-up. Dropping throws in the bucket or leading a reciever with the right touch and anticipation.
And finally the biggest difference is I see with Caleb a willingness to throw with anticipation. At least in practice. We'll see in games. But so far he has tested many different windows with results being up and down but showing the ability to let it go before the receivers there. From post routes, to back shoulders, to quick out routes, to deep fades to red zone front pylons, he showing me that he can let it rip before he sees it open. And that was always Justin's biggest challenge. It stands out that Caleb is better at that.
Overall, none of this guarantees anything. I'm encouraged by what I see. Take my very general fan in the stands analysis for what it is. But I'm confident in what I see when I go to camp. But I have gotten some things wrong. That will happen when you out your opinions out there. I'll continue to do that and see what happens from there.
Excited for more camp and watching this offense and QB develop.
