Growth Equity Investor | Columbia University | prev. Harlem Capital | prev. Draper Associates | Looking to connect with founders building cool things 💥
While at @HarlemCapital I’ve had the opportunity to review a lot of inbound deals. After seeing 100+ deals in the last three weeks I wanted to shared some insights on what makes a good deck 👇
5/ Share your story. There is power in talking about your career journey and showing others how you think. People can learn from you and also give you honest feedback.
There is power in sharing your story✨As a young professional I have spent a lot of time thinking how I can add value to the teams I work with and the founders I meet.
Here are some of my top learnings:
4/ In VC, I have dealt a lot with impostor syndrome because we are called to make early bets. Spend time reflecting on your thesis and feel comfortable with it. It is easy to get influenced by FOMO but you need to stay true to your thesis if you want to own your success/failure.
Every singe experience I've had at USPS stores has been negative. I get it: the job is tough and you have to deal with rude people, but you don't have to be rude or mean😤 Avoiding USPS from now on...
One of the things I tend to say about VC is that it is gate kept. Yesterday, I joined a webinar hosted by @contrarycapital and @nic_detommaso@venturetwins and @rak_garg summarized why.
This definitely used to be the norm about VC but we are gradually seeing it change. VCs have started sharing more and more internship programs and young professionals choose to break into VC straight after college other than following the stereotypical finance path first.
