One of the downsides of top down communication is that the information only comes from one direction instead of circulating.

Top down communication models might not be perfect but they are efficient at spreading information to a large amount of people.

There have been many cases where false or incorrect information spread like wildfire over social media and harmed real people.

When receiving information from social media I think it is important to not be caught inside a butterfly effect.
