When Congress loses an election, it blames the democratic system.

My article in today’s The Indian Express examines the increasingly contested debate around the Election Commission of India- and the distinction between electoral disappointment and institutional illegitimacy.

Democracy demands scrutiny of institutions. It also demands evidence, constitutional restraint and faith in the voter.

Congratulations to all the newly appointed office bearers of the BJP. Their appointments come at a crucial juncture as the party prepares to scale newer heights and take its message and organisation to every corner of the country.

I wish to particularly congratulate Shri Deepak Mhaskey ji, who will be taking over from me as the head of the BJP’s Social Media Department, and the co-conveners Smt. Priti Gandhi ji, Shri Shivanand Dwivedi ji, Shri Alok Bhatt ji and Shri Arun Yadav ji.

I have had the privilege of working closely with each of them over the last decade. I am confident that under their leadership, the BJP’s digital communication will achieve newer milestones and continue to shape India’s public discourse with conviction, creativity and clarity.

A BIG THANK YOU to the BJP’s massive support base on social media, a community brimming with commitment, energy and ideas. This family has stayed together through thick and thin and played a decisive role in reshaping India’s public discourse. You have been an incredible source of strength to me personally and to the cause. Over my eleven years at the helm, I have had the opportunity to meet and interact with many of you, and those interactions will always remain special.

I hope you will continue to extend the same unstinted support to the party and to my successors in the years ahead.

India is poised to scale even greater heights under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji and the BJP. Your contribution to this journey will be remembered and written in glorious words.

Justice for Tamanna is our priority and we are delivering on our promise.
I express satisfaction and appreciate the Krishnanagar District Police Personnel for their prompt and lawful action in this case.
Following my meeting with Tamanna’s grieving Mother, the Police have acted swiftly to ensure the culprits face the full force of the law.
I am pleased to inform the People of West Bengal that almost all of the FIR-named accused have now been arrested. In the last few days, our Forces while relentlessly pursuing leads across State Lines to places like Gurgaon and Nagpur have apprehended 12 more individuals:-
* Jiarul Sk
* Sabir Sk
* Fakar Sk @ Ismile Sk
* Hafizul Sk
* Minarul Sk
* Anisur Sk
* Milan Sk
* Rajabul Sk
* Jakat Dk
* Sahibul Sk
* Amirul Sk
* Rakibul Sk

This swift action sends a clear message. Unlike the times of the previous regime, where culprits were distinguished by their political affiliations and Police action was heavily influenced by the political identity of the victims, our Government operates differently.
We have taken a strong, unyielding resolve to establish the "Rule of Law" and completely abolish the dark era where the "Law of the Ruler" prevailed.
A crime is a crime and action will be taken impartially, promptly & without any fear or favor, irrespective of the victim's or accused person's identity.

Visited the Giant Tortoise Enclosure at the Seychelles National Botanical Garden with President Dr. Patrick Herminie.

The Aldabra Giant Tortoise, which is native to Seychelles, is among the largest and longest-living species on Earth, with some of them witnessing over two centuries of history.

The Aldabra Giant Tortoise also have an association with the special friendship between India and Seychelles. In 2014, two of them were gifted to the Alipore Zoo in Kolkata. A few years later, Seychelles gifted a few more tortoises to Hyderabad Zoo.

Congress’s discomfort with the Emergency being included in the school curriculum is entirely understandable. For decades, it treated history as an instrument of political convenience, highlighting what suited its narrative while burying what exposed its failures.

The Emergency was one of the darkest chapters in independent India’s constitutional history. Democracy was strangled, fundamental rights were suspended, the press was censored, political opponents were imprisoned, and institutions were brought to heel. Yet, generations of students were taught little or nothing about this unprecedented assault on the Constitution.

Teaching the Emergency is not an ideological exercise, it is a constitutional obligation. Every student has the right to know how democratic institutions can be undermined when unchecked power is concentrated in the hands of the executive, Indira Gandhi in this case (more on this in a subsequent post). Remembering this chapter is essential to ensuring that such excesses are never repeated.

Congress should also be the last party to lecture anyone on ideology in education. For decades, it shaped textbooks to suit its political worldview, placing disproportionate emphasis on the Mughal period while, critics argue, giving inadequate attention to India’s civilisational heritage and to the many rulers who resisted invasions and safeguarded the country’s cultural identity.

A mature democracy does not erase its darkest chapters. It teaches them, learns from them, and ensures future generations understand both the value of liberty and the cost of losing it.

The West Bengal Government’s decision to officially observe Paschimbanga Divas on 20th June is a welcome acknowledgement of a defining moment in the state’s history.

The Left and then Mamata Banerjee’s long-standing objection to commemorating 20th June as West Bengal’s Foundation Day has been a denial of historical fact. The truth is that on 20th June 1947, legislators from the non-Muslim majority districts of undivided Bengal voted decisively for partition and for these regions to remain with India. Had that historic decision not been taken, the entirety of Bengal would have gone to Pakistan.

This outcome was made possible by the determined efforts of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee and countless others who fought to secure a homeland for Bengali Hindus in the aftermath of the horrors of Direct Action Day and the Noakhali riots. The creation of West Bengal was not an accident of history; it was the result of a conscious democratic choice.

History cannot be erased for political convenience. Recognising 20th June is not about partisanship, it is about acknowledging the sacrifices, struggles and decisions that shaped modern West Bengal.

Marking 20th June as the Foundation Day of West Bengal is an epochal civilisational and ideological moment for the BJP. It is a reaffirmation of the vision and struggle led by Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee to secure West Bengal’s place within India and protect the cultural, civilisational and democratic aspirations of its people. By recognising this historic day, BJP honours the forces that shaped Bengal’s destiny and preserves a truth that cannot be erased or rewritten.
