Not gonna lie, the more and more I think about Superman (2025), the more I think about how that Gunn should’ve only wrote the script for it and let someone else direct it. So many shots look so awkward, and the cinematography and lighting looked so bad at certain points
Batman needs its own distinctive voice like with Scott Snyders absolute Batman and Matt reeves Batman. A unique and dark take that feels fresh/ new and distinct from the other dcu projects. Dcu Batman needs a high calibre director like Mike Flanagan, Guillermo del toro or Robert Eggers etc or the director of the furious and not to mention replace Christina Hodson as the writer. Also bring in Scott Snyder and Matt reeves to executive produce.
I miss the old James Gunn, straight from the go James Gunn, Chop up the soul James Gunn, set on his goals James Gunn. I hate the new James Gunn, the bad mood James Gunn, The always rude James Gunn, spaz in the news James Gunn
Each film has a director with their own visual style and flare with the help from GOOD writers who have worked on those characters before like Grant Morrison, Paul Dini, Scott Snyder, Greg Rucka, Mark Waid, Geoff Johns, etc
How hard was it for DCU to start off like this:
-Superman film (2025)
-Batman film (2026)
-Superman 2 (2027)
-Wonder Woman film (2028)
-Lanterns (2029)
-Flash film (2030)
-Justice League film (late 2030)
You can even have other League members even show up in those films too
He likes to change stuff a lot by making characters a far cry from how they were originally by either exaggerating their traits or just changing them entirely, and it makes them a lot of them feel the same. (Probably why he likes Tom King so much, he changes stuff a lot)
Having Peacemaker being important at all along with Rick Flag feels like Gunn is having the DCU be only his style and vision and not what the fans are looking for. He only wants the characters he’s used to be the most relevant/important.
I keep forgetting that John Cena's Peacemaker is supposed to be a big part of the next Superman movie that definitely doesn't already have too much going on for no reason
It’s probably why he liked Supergirl so much and fast tracked it to be made. It’s feels like an imitation of his style of a superhero film. Wonder Woman might end up being the same way and i’m terrified just thinking about it.
He legit can’t critique anything. I hope to God he just let Reeves rock and didn’t say anything about the script that would have changed anything about it’s tone or dialogue
What scares me is what he said about The Batman Part II script. All he said about it was that he “liked it” and it needed a few “tweaks”. But when he was asked about The Flash or Supergirl he said he “loved their scripts” and praised them.
