I remember all those so very many lives that could have been, cut so cruelly short.

They fought for Britain. They fought for our home. They fought for us. I am forever grateful that they were successful.

Their sacrifice mattered.

I always think of just how lucky we are to live in a country they defended. It is very easy indeed to take for granted the peace they secured, because we have never known anything else.

We wake up, we work, we raise our families - all on the foundation they built. In peace, because of them.

However many challenges Britain faces today, the alternative is far worse.

All of our freedoms, however now fragile, didn’t happen by accident. They were earned in the hardest way imaginable. An enormous price was paid - the most enormous price.

Fewer and fewer remain to tell their stories, but their generation left us a Britain built on courage and decency.

Our job is to keep it that way, to protect the country they gave everything for.

We will remember them.

In 2009, the paedophile, Jimmy Savile was interviewed under caution by police in Surrey and Sussex. Subsequently, the police referred 4 cases to the CPS alleging that Savile had raped at least three learning disabled girls under the age of 16.
The CPS, after receiving the files from the police, refused to prosecute Savile, and dropped the claim, citing 'insufficient evidence'..

After Savile's death, and despite multiple attempts at high level cover ups, we now know he abused at least 500 known victims over a four decade period.

The man in charge of the CPS at the time, that decided that there was 'insufficient evidence' to charge Saville, was none other than Keir Starmer.

Our parliamentary debate on using prison as a penalty for social media posts is on November 17th following our successful petition.

I have invited Wayne O’Rourke, and he has accepted. Wayne just spent 14 months in prison over what he posted online following the Southport killings.

Lucy Connolly is also attending.

Spending months in prison for foolish posts is wrong.

To lock British people away, using valuable prison space, over an unpleasant comment on the internet is simply ludicrous - particularly when the distribution of such sentences seems so uneven.

I urge you all to contact your MPs and ask them to attend.

This is a unique opportunity to deliver a positive change.
