Bahá'ís in Iran are not only discriminated against and banned from university and public employment—they're also restricted from playing professional sports. Some are in prison instead of on the sports field.
Shahrzad Nazifi, a motocross champion, was sentenced to 8 years in prison in 2021. She was released after 9 months. Her family was also banned from competitions. Her crime? Being Bahá'í.

Celebrities @PennBadgley, #rainnwilson, and @MarkRuffalo have released an urgent joint video plea calling for the immediate release of #PeyvandNaimi.
#PeyvandNaimi faces imminent danger after enduring mock executions, torture, and prolonged interrogation, as Iranian authorities attempt to force him to confess to crimes he did not commit.
Their voices add to growing international concern and help amplify the call for justice.

Dr. Nicolas Levrat, the UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues, covered the situation of Bahá'ís in Egypt in his report ahead of the February 2026 UN Human Rights Council session. His report notes that Bahá'ís in Egypt are barred from giving their religion on official documents — a violation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which Egypt is a signatory.
The discrimination Bahá'ís face, Dr. Levrat concluded, "must be firmly condemned and immediately stopped."
The convergence of three UN reports — from the High Commissioner, the Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief, and the Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues — all published at the same time and all condemning Egypt's treatment of Bahá'ís, is without recent precedent. As Dr. Saba Haddad, the Bahá'í International Community's Representative to the UN in Geneva, stated: "The time has come for the Egyptian authorities to stop yielding to reactionary religious elements and to undo decades of discriminatory anti-Bahá'í laws and policies. It is worth noting that several countries in the region are taking commendable steps toward coexistence and inclusive citizenship.”

Thank you @WashTimesOpEd for publishing this important op-ed by an Egyptian Baha'i in Canada, Samandary Hindawi, who has corrected the record on the state of religious co-existence and tolerance in his homeland. Read the full piece:

Baha’i Photojournalist and Podcaster Artin Ghazanfari Remains in Detention after 125 Days in Tehran
It was learned on 23 May 2026 that Mr. Artin Ghazanfari, a Baha’i photojournalist, writer, and host of the podcast “Thirteenth Month”, has remained in detention without charge for 125 days at Tehran Greater Prison (Fashafouyeh).
Mr. Ghazanfari was arrested on 19 January 2026 at his home in Tehran. Eleven security agents entered his residence with a judicial warrant and carried out a search lasting approximately seven to eight hours.
During the raid, personal belongings were confiscated and he was taken into custody. His workplace was also raided, searched, and his professional equipment was seized.
For the first 46 days after his arrest, his whereabouts remained unknown. It was later confirmed that he had been transferred to Tehran Greater Prison due to wartime conditions.
Despite serious concerns regarding his physical and psychological condition, his detention order has been repeatedly extended without explanation, and his requests for release on bail have not been accepted.
Mr. Ghazanfari suffers from multiple medical conditions, including heart disease, asthma, and high blood pressure, and was taking daily medication prior to his arrest. During detention, he contracted COVID-19, and the lack of adequate medical care has worsened his asthma.
Throughout both the wartime period and afterward, his family has made daily efforts to follow up on his situation. After 125 days in custody, he remains in detention without charge, and without access to a clear judicial process. His family has called for fair proceedings, respect for legal rights, and his immediate release.

Apple is working on a new security feature that automatically locks an iPhone the moment the system detects the device has been snatched from the user's hand, per code seen by @9to5Mac.
The feature would build on existing protections like Find My, Activation Lock, and Stolen Device Protection.
⬇️ #Iran's internet blackout is now in its 86th day as the population remains in digital darkness after 2040 hours.
While access to the global internet remains largely cut during peace talks, select whitelisted users project a synthetic view of Iranian life to the outside world.
I am deeply concerned by reports surrounding the detention and mistreatment of Borna and Peyvand Naimi, two young Baha’i men who have reportedly endured torture and forced confessions.
As Iranian authorities intensify domestic repression, they have sharply escalated the persecution of the #Bahai religious minority community through
🔸arbitrary arrests
🔸violent home raids
🔸enforced disappearances
🔸property seizures
