The House of Lords Social Mobility Policy Committee have launched a "call for evidence" to support generation of new government policy on Social Mobility!
Arguably the British Army and wider military contributes to 2-4, through recruiting, training and resettling from across society, but importantly strongly recruiting in designated "areas of deprivation".
"He said British soldiers were often “scrawny, ill-educated and under-privileged” but they have a “nobility of spirit, a streak of cheerful and irrepressible defiance, a joyful wildness and above all a capacity for sudden violence that when tempered by discipline, values and esprit de corps, makes them among the most hard-to-beat soldiers anywhere in the world”."
General Sir Patrick Sanders. Quoted in The Times.
It's easier to beat public opinion and politicians. You just need patience.
"No question, that will happen."
The head of the RAF, @ChiefofAirStaff, says he has no doubt that more officers who are commissioned from the ranks will hold the role of Chief of the Air Staff in the coming years.

Congratulations to all Lance Corporals in the British Army who were selected for promotion yesterday. This is a massive achievement and a significant milestone in your military careers.
What advice would you offer to a newly promoted Corporal?

Rishi wanting national service for 18 year olds. Just my thoughts.
It will be a vote winner with a generation that wasn’t forced into it themselves.
It will no doubt have a uni exclusion so it’s going come down to forcing poor kids into it.
Who’s paying for this?
If you had told me in high school that someday I would be on Capitol Hill talking to members of Congress about EOD, I wouldn’t have believed you.
I was waiting tables and going nowhere fast. I was failing out of community college, and had no idea what I was doing with my life.
Joining the Army is one of the best choices I’ve made in my life. They paid for my associates and my bachelors degree. They gave me a path to progression and becoming an Officer. They gave me opportunities that I don’t think I’d get anywhere else.

@KatieSpencey To put it on the other foot I'm sure a Male soldier would tire of being referred to as Women, Ma'am, lady, "girl" etc particularly if it happened more than once.
So, I joined the Army around the same time as one of my mates from home. She went the soldier route & is now a Junior Non-Commissioned Officer 🇬🇧
She recently sent me this text to vent. A minor irritation. Something to be brushed over. Or is it?
