Dear @officialABAT,

Uber did not leave because Nigerians stopped needing rides. It left because, under your economy, passengers could no longer afford the fares and drivers could no longer earn enough to feed their families.

Fuel went up. Spare parts, car loans and repairs went up. The naira fell. Then came more taxes and licence fees from your Taiwo Oyedele. He brought a stealth tax on movement. Before passengers reach their destinations, your government has already emptied their pockets.

Passengers pay more, drivers earn less and the platforms struggle to survive.

Uber could not increase fares because Nigerians were already struggling. It could not keep fares low because drivers were losing money. After 12 years, it packed its bags, leaving behind lost jobs, lost incomes & more worried families.

Mr. Bola, stop calling this reform. Any policy that empties pockets, kills jobs and drives businesses out of Nigeria is organised hardship & wickedness raised to an ontological level.

Nigeria’s young people do not need a government that teaches them how to survive hardship. They need a government that gives them the opportunity to prosper.

The cost-of-living crisis has stripped millions of Nigerians of purchasing power, weakened small businesses and pushed too many young people farther away from jobs, capital and economic independence.

My commitment is to change that.

We will restore purchasing power, reduce the cost of living and deliberately expand opportunities for young Nigerians, including through a $100 billion financing programme for start-ups and entrepreneurs.

You manufactured ₦153 trillion from two false premises.

Atiku’s youth entrepreneurship proposal is $10 BILLION, not $100 billion. The typographical error was corrected immediately through a quote-post clarifying the $10 billion figure, while the original post was left intact. The accompanying video, which clearly states $10 billion, was also attached as evidence.

So there was no attempt to conceal the error; the correction and the evidence are both on record.

Then there is your ₦19 trillion annual subsidy figure. That number is YOUR invention, not Atiku’s. Your own small print admits the “subsidy component is an independent estimate.”

So you inflated $10bn to $100bn, invented ₦19tn, added your inventions together and sent Atiku a ₦153tn invoice. 😂

My brother, you cannot cook the soup, price it yourself, eat it and send Atiku the restaurant bill.

But since you have bought this new calculator, please don’t put it away yet.
Use it to show Nigerians where the ₦30 trillion you say subsidy removal freed up went. Then account for the ₦34 trillion in import-duty waivers/concessions being attributed to your government.

Those are figures from YOUR side of the argument, not opposition estimates.
Show Nigerians the roads, hospitals, schools, power projects and infrastructure those trillions produced in three years.

You seem very interested in calculating how Atiku might spend money in 2027.

First calculate what #Tinubu has actually taken from poor Nigerians since 2023 and where he used the funds.

CATHOLIC PRIESTS ARE NOT LIKE YOUR 'FAKE BISHOPS'

Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the Presidency's attack on the Catholic Church and John Cardinal Onaiyekan, accusing the President Bola Tinubu administration of growing intolerant of dissent and uncomfortable truths.

In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu on Sunday, Atiku said the Presidency chose intimidation and political attacks instead of reflecting on the substance of the cleric's message.

Catholic bishops had recently had an engagement with the president, where the latter defended his record and the independence of the electoral umpire.

However, the cardinal in a television interview on Friday said the Catholic bishops told the president that the country is bleeding and the economy is not helping poor citizens.

According to him, Tinubu and his officials present at the meeting were “not looking very happy” with the speech, adding that it was a different speech from what the president usually listened to.

But the presidency slammed Onaiyekan, accusing him and the Catholic Church, among other things, of working for the Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi.

Atiku suggested the Presidency's response reflected a habit of surrounding itself with fake and compliant clerics allegedly used in the lead up to the 2023 general election, contrasting this with the independence of Catholic bishops.

It was Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, his own daughter, who publicly accused her father of being a liar, manipulator, hypocrite and of secretly pursuing a third-term agenda despite his public denials. Those were not the words of Atiku Abubakar. They were the words of his own daughter in a letter that entered the public domain and has remained part of Nigeria's political history.

It is with profound sorrow that I learnt of the devastating collapse of a gold mining pit at Kadauri in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, in which scores of lives are feared lost and scores of miners remain trapped.

First and foremost, I extend my deepest condolences to the families and communities affected by this tragic event. Your pain is our pain. We mourn with you, and we pray for strength and solace in this dark hour.

I also commend the valiant rescue teams, local volunteers, and medical personnel who are working tirelessly under difficult and dangerous conditions to recover survivors and provide care to the injured. May God grant them safety and success in their efforts.

This disaster underscores, yet again, the urgent need for Nigeria to confront the underlying failures in enforcement, regulation, and oversight in the mining sector especially in artisanal and small-scale mining, where workers are often exposed to life-threatening hazards without adequate safety measures.

There's an urgent need for stricter monitoring and regulation of mining activities, particularly in areas dominated by artisanal operations. Nigeria must strengthen health, safety, and environmental standards while also ensuring that miners receive proper training, equipment, and support to reduce risks. In addition, there should be well-coordinated emergency response mechanisms with faster reaction times and adequate resources to save lives when disasters occur.

I call on the federal government, the Zamfara State Government, agencies such as the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, and other stakeholders to collaborate urgently. The task at hand is to rescue those still trapped, provide immediate relief to victims and their families, and ensure that lessons are learnt to avert such tragedies. -AA
