Teachers make mistakes; they get sick; they get sad; they get nervous; they get frustrated. As it turns out... teachers are human. And this is ok. There can be value in showing some vulnerability in the classroom. It makes teachers “real.” And authenticity is always compelling.

If we tell a student not to do something, we must tell them what they should be doing instead. Better yet, have them explain what they should be doing. #teachergoals#Restorative
If you are using public behavior charts / traffic light systems for behavior please stop now. You are harming kids. Shame on admins who allow / force T’s to use them. #edchat#kidsdeserveit#thatonekid
Don't get mad at kids if they arent problem-solving...teach them how to do it...over and over.
P.S. Many adults still need help problem-solving.

The sooner children can answer the two fundamental questions "Am I safe?" (routines) and "Am I loved?"(rituals) in the affirmative, the sooner we can focus on achieving our academic goals. Share your favorite routine or ritual below. As always, we wish you well! #iHeartCD
The primary goal in addressing a discipline issue should be to prevent future misbehavior, not to prove who’s in charge, not to prove who’s right, not to gain the upper hand. Always strive to protect the relationship and use mistakes as learning opportunities.
If we focus on what children have done wrong, we will teach them to value judgement, criticism and problems. If we focus on what we want to have happen, we will teach respectfulness and a focus on solutions.
“One and done is not the way anyone becomes competent in any field. “ @rickwormeli2 WHY OH WHY do we insist on doing this with grading practices? Fabulous learning with @mrmatera & @rickwormeli2 on day 3 of #hivesummit
For many of us, new students will be walking into our classrooms and buildings in August/September. We have the awesome opportunity of starting over each year. Kids are just getting started. How will you make them want to come back? #JoyfulLeaders
To build powerful relationships with all learners:
1. Love your kids more than the subject you teach and/or the grade level you work with.
2. Use feedback and positive reinforcement as the main learning motivator, not grades or marks.
3. Be empathetic.
