🚨 Gaza is preparing for one of the largest funerals since the genocide began‼️

Tomorrow, the remains of 112 members of the Abu Sharia family will be buried after Israeli forces annihilated an entire residential block, wiping out whole families in a single act of mass destruction.

Civil defense crews spent days recovering their bodies from beneath the rubble. Yet the horror continues: nearly 200 more relatives are still believed to be trapped under the ruins, while others were vaporized by the sheer force of the Israeli bombardment, leaving no remains for their loved ones to bury.

An entire neighborhood erased. An entire family massacred. A funeral for those who could be recovered and endless rubble for those who never will.

This chart has been making the rounds in Africa circles for days. While it’s a stupid mistake and embarrassing to see from the US, I think we misdiagnose the issue. To me it’s a reflection of what happens when you fire ⅓ of the State Department, eliminate multiple layers of bureaucracy and have too junior staff performing work under-supervised. There isn’t just a cost savings when eviscerating staff and expertise. There’s a real cost in reputation and effectiveness. I suspect many people don’t actually care because they say it’s Africa, but the same thing is happening with teams trying to negotiate nuclear deals with Iran. That should concern everyone.

Recent false and misleading reports have mischaracterized U.S. diplomacy in the Horn of Africa as an attempt to court an “anti-Ethiopian alliance.” That narrative is both inaccurate and needlessly inflammatory.

The United States works with Ethiopia and all countries across the Horn of Africa and the wider Red Sea region to advance shared priorities.

Engagement with one regional partner should not be distorted into hostility toward another. U.S. diplomacy is not about creating rival blocs or deepening divisions—it is about working constructively with all partners to prevent conflict and promote lasting peace and security.

Iran: UAE Opens Vaults and Pushes Deals Under Chinese Guardianship

During coalition strikes on Iran launched from American bases in the region, and the subsequent Iranian retaliation against Gulf states, the United Arab Emirates initiated a severe, sweeping crackdown on Iranian citizens and institutions. Residence visas held by Iranians who had lived in the country for decades were cancelled en masse, and harsh financial restrictions were imposed. 

This strategy hit those outside the country particularly hard: Iranian citizens traveling for business or tourism were barred from re-entering the Emirates, even being prevented from collecting their personal belongings.

Even the coveted Golden Visas, the 10-year residency permits granted to buyers of high-value luxury properties, were unilaterally cancelled without prior notice.

Furthermore, the government suspended operations for all entities linked to Iran and froze the accounts of hundreds of Iranian individuals and companies.

Iranians were barred from transferring funds or registering new real estate. According to Tehran, the Emirati government confiscated or blocked the equivalent of $530 billion in total assets belonging to Iranian citizens and companies.
Independent sources, however, put the figure closer to $350 billion, still a staggering sum.

As Iran intensified attacks on the Emirates and maintained its closure of the Strait, Abu Dhabi moved to de-escalate. The economic damage was simply too deep to ignore.

In May, the total value of real estate transactions plunged 42% compared to April. The volume of units sold dropped 19% in a single month. In the second quarter of 2026, the overall value of transactions recorded a 45% decline year-on-year.

Reports from Knight Frank confirmed that the number of homes changing hands in June fell 16.4% annually.
To offload completed properties on the secondary market, frightened owners and some developers began offering steep discounts relative to pre-war prices, hoping to attract buyers willing to take the risk. 

What risk? The risk of Iranian missiles pointed directly at their windows from across the Strait.

The toll on oil exports, tourism, and airlines has already climbed into the tens of billions. 

Consequently, the Emirates opened talks with representatives from the Tehran government, stitching together an agreement aimed at releasing $20 billion that had been frozen for years in Emirati banks under international sanctions.

China acted as the guarantor of the entire agenda, leveraging its close partnership with both nations.
