With Northern Irish consultants now going on strike, that leaves Scottish consultants as the ONLY in the UK who have not yet even been balloted for strike action! Why are Scottish consultants being sold out by the BMA?
@BMAScotland@BMA_Consultants@DrIainKennedy@alanjrobertson
@ShanuDatta4@BMA_Consultants@helennry7@Vish_Sharm@alanjrobertson@BMAScotland That "great team" has presided over years of pay cuts, fiscal drag, increased tax rates compared to England, and now a whole new tax band, all while doing absolutely nothing! Scottish consultants now many thousand £s a year worse off than English ones. And still no strike ballot!
@BrianBeattie5@BMAScotland@neilcgray@BMAScotland should try consulting with its members, who currently are receiving the lowest real terms pay EVER in NHS history, coupled with the highest tax burden EVER in NHS history.
@BMAScotland@DrIainKennedy You realise this is your fault, right? This is a direct result of @BMAScotland's continual, complete, and ongoing failure to stand up against 15 years of pay cuts.
You want better staffing? Then try standing up for the staff you are supposed to be representing! Strike already!
@BMA_NI @David_Farren Great job @BMA_NI for actually standing up against years of pay cuts. Consultants in 3 out of 4 nations been on strike or going on strike! What a shame that @BMAScotland@DrIainKennedy@alanjrobertson continue to sell out the profession in Scotland!
@BMAScotland It's almost as if you pay consultants considerably less and tax them considerably more than in England, resulting in a take home disparity of many thousands of £s, then you get a problem with recruitment and retention!
Will @BMAScotland do anything yet!? Can we strike now!?
@BMAScotland@Hugh_Pearson_@BBCRadioScot Why would any doctor in training stay in Scotland? No light at the end of the tunnel since @BMAScotland has presided over 15 years of real term pay cuts for consultants and is taking zero action to fix! Won't even ballot us to strike!
@PaulStokes674 @HWazir6 @goldstone_tony Don't forget much higher tax burden as well, especially in Scotland with new tax brackets. If only @BMAScotland weren't completely useless and actually balloted us to strike, eh?
@TheRealLogieB@BMAScotland@alanjrobertson Paid them over £7k in fees since I graduated, while they sold out my pension and are selling out my pay. Emails I send receive useless boilerplate replies. Tweets are ignored just like they ignore emails and members, but at least this way others can see them being complicit.
@BMAScotland@TheScotsman Cut consultant pay by 35%, increase tax burden with marginal rates of 70%(!!!), record consultant vacancies, be "shocked" when the NHS is under pressure.🤡
Perhaps if @BMAScotland did something (anything!?) to fix consultant pay, we wouldn't have this current workforce crisis?
@goldstone_tony Can you do one for Scotland, highlighting that @BMAScotland accepted an even worse pay deal for Scottish consultants than south of the border, and the extra we are losing from higher taxes and new tax brackets? All with no strikes and @BMAScotland asleep at the wheel!
@BMA_Consultants Future strategy? Is it "Continue to ignore all Scottish consultants, who have been hit with 15 years of pay cuts and multiple new tax brackets, as their pay and conditions get progressively worse and worse, and don't even ballot them for strike action?"
What a joke.
@AlanBrunton7 @Hugh_Pearson_@scotgov@BMAScotland@VictoriaAtkins@RishiSunak I hear you. Only reason I'm still here is family, but becoming less of a reason as quality of life I can provide for family is lower each year with more pay cuts. And a new tax bracket as well now! With @BMAScotland asleep at the wheel, CCT and flee is only logical at this point.
@AlanBrunton7 @Hugh_Pearson_@scotgov@BMAScotland@VictoriaAtkins@RishiSunak Plenty of talk on the ground, just no action from @BMAScotland. Just like the old guard BMA down south - they care more about their own personal positions than they do about the future of the profession. NHS Scotland has a bleak future with such poor conditions for consultants.
@BMAScotland "Raise concerns"? Just like you "raise concerns" about 15 years of pay cuts?
Writing endless Twitter and blog posts achieves NOTHING! Strike before the death of the profession and the death of NHS Scotland. @BMAScotland's lack of action makes them complicit in this mess!
