Peers made clear that, absent substantive Government action, the issue will return at Report stage.
In the meantime, please continue to support this outcome in your social media posts and conversations!!
Good news from the House of Lords 💛
On Wednesday, peers debated the use of creative expression as evidence in criminal trials, which demonstrated clear and unchallenged cross-party concern about the current approach of creative expression as evidence in criminal trials.
The Minister indicated that the Government will await the outcome of the CPS consultation before considering legislative change. In response, Baroness Chakrabarti noted that the CPS should not be left to “mark its own homework”.
Today, the @UKHouseofLords debates limiting the use of art as evidence in criminal trials. Keir Monteith KC, co-founder of @ArtNotEvidence, worked with JUSTICE to raise awareness of the issue. He spoke to @BBC5Live this morning. (1/3)
Plus, we’ve been invited to dive even deeper at 3pm Friday at the Talks Tent. Founder Elli Brazzill will be talking with Ciaran Thapar and Adèle Oliver about their experiences of this issue and how we can encourage young people’s creativity while keeping them safe 💛

Ban Bob Vylan? The people said ‘Nah’. We need artists that speak up. Our album ‘Humble As The Sun’ is back in the charts and, as an independent band releasing music on our own label, it shows the power of the people. You can’t get dropped if you own the label.
Thank you all!
Even bigger thanks to @KimJohnsonMP for speaking about us and our bill in the debate on the Crime and Policing bill last week - highlighting how rap music is so often used to produce ‘gang narratives’ and introduce racist stereotypes into the courtroom
ANE back in Parliament!
Huge thanks to the APPG on Music and APPG on Miscarriages of Justice for coming together to support our cause and bill, specifically @KimJohnsonMP, @PeteWishart our day 1 @NadiaWhittomeMP and @UK_Music for facilitating.
