It has been rough recently as we had to spend a lot of money responding to the museum's legal tactics, if you or anyone you know is able to donate to our legal fund, we would much appreciate any help we can get! Link in bio. Solidarity! Thank you all for the support❤️ 2/2
Todays the day! Union ballots are officially being sent out from the NLRB and we’re so excited! May 31st all ballots counted💌📥
We are continuing the labor struggle towards better wages, protections, and benefits in our workplace for all VSOs❤️🐪 1/2
Thank you @Crosscut for the feature! As we get closer to our Election Day (May 10th -31st) please help us out by donating any funds you can to our GoFundMe (link in bio) to help out with legal funds. 🐪❤️https://t.co/U0MnMl2RxY
Exciting UPDATE: Earlier this week, we received notice from the NLRB of our official SECRET BALLOT ELECTION DATE!!! Our NLRB Union Representation election will be held via mail 💌 May 10th ballots will be sent out and May 31st ballots will be counted.
In the meantime, Aselya has to cover rent without the income she relied on as a Seattle Art Museum employee. Please help her deal with this sudden loss of wages by donating what you can to help her pay rent. (Link in bio.) We appreciate your solidarity! 10/10
An Unfair Labor Practice charge has already been filed with the NLRB about this situation and we believe their investigation will show that Aselya's termination was in retaliation for protected activity. 9/10
Aselya Keyes (a young POC woman) was fired for what we believe is retaliation for union organizing the security department. Aselya has been an actively public face for the SAMVSOUnion and has been an extremely efficient organizer. 1/10
Now that we have officially begun our union's election campaign, we are partnering with a local legal firm to aid in our further efforts toward unionization! If you support our cause, please consider donating to help us in these crucial next steps. ✊🙏🐫

20 days since we filed union authorization cards, and still @iheartSAM does not recognize our union. Please share and RT and fill out the form linked on our page. Tell SAM to allow their employees to unionize by voluntarily recognizing them
The Art Workers Union stands in solidarity with SAM Security and we call on the SAM administration to voluntarily recognize the VSO Union and a begin negotiating a fair contract

If you'd like to do something to help, donations are great! Believe us, Evey bit helps right now.
But also:
Call your state reps and demand they fight for aid for cultural institutions at the state and federal level. It's gonna take more money than any one person can spare.
Logistically, there're all sorts of difficulties. At this point, namely, is probably whether a museum even has an appropriate level of staffing to be fully open to the public. @AMTransparency has done a wonderful job documenting layoffs & furloughs through the pandemic.
Great reader question this week that I've also thought about: Museums seem suited to social distancing and moving everyone in one direction. So why aren't they open yet? https://t.co/cnrduf028x
Like, we guarantee you most museum workers would LOVE to be back at work.
Provided that job is SAFE for them and for the public.
Unfortunately, that's not where we're at in the US. Most of us are at a point where we're just trying to scrape by.
