@MAN_TOGA_SRS_AJ @tomhfh I’m an aerospace engineer, agree completely. Just use the electricity used to power the batteries to make SAF if people want to fly green. Much better than carrying the weight of 2 electric motors ontop of the backup gas turbines.

@RhonPiquering @tomhfh Nope, commercial air travel is all about weight. This requires 2 additional motors which makes it insanely expensive. It’s not even green because the opportunity cost on that electricity is that it could be used to make SAF

@Salamander0kg @tomhfh Half correct. It’s the weight penalty. Electrics motors weight so much more than traditional gas turbines. You might aswell just make sustainable aviation fuel and fly a normal GT using that. It would win hands down on every metric

@tomhfh So I work in aerospace. You really need to think about the costs involved, flight powered in this manner is absolutely rediculous. You can litterally make “green” fuel for planes, it’s a bit more expensive but the in air efficiency is so much better it wins easily on cost
