UAAP LENIENT TO ATENEO, BUT STRICT TO OTHER UNIVERSITIES?
Veteran sports broadcaster Quinito Henson questioned the UAAP's decision to let Ateneo de Manila University handle its own investigation into the drowning deaths of student-athletes Rene Clert Baterbonia and Divine Adili, noting that neither the university nor members of its coaching staff have been sanctioned or suspended in connection with the incident.
Henson pointed to previous cases in which the UAAP imposed penalties, including Adamson University's use of ineligible player Marlou Aquino and the controversy surrounding former coach Aldin Ayo's training camp, which led to complaints from players. He argued that the league's response in the Ateneo case appears inconsistent with its actions in past incidents.
