Itโs not selfish for educators to bring up concerns about exposure to COVID-19. Itโs not even self-care. Itโs basic self-preservation. And thatโs often motivated by the human desire to be alive for our loved ones. Saying, โI want to liveโ shouldnโt be a controversial stance.
For those that think that "kids" aren't ready to talk about "controversial topics" I got news for you... They're already forming their own ideas, talking about them and making art about them... And I'm here to support that. Happy Pride ๐ณ๏ธโ๐
On this last day of #pridemonth I wanted to share this particular work of art made this past school year by an 8th grade graduate @LakelandSchool

The art room is often a safe space for students to express themselves, what they believe in, and to explore topics of identity. I was so unbelievably proud of this student for this work and loved listening to her talk about the meaning behind it.

"Yes, and the educational system is still racist.
"Art teachers everywhere, regardless of their student populations, can be change agents, take action to better support students of color, and dismantle inequitable systems in their school."
Have acrylic paint at home? How about glue or dish soap? Check out the tutorial below on how to create an acrylic pour painting & experiment with how those materials react together & create art! No canvas? No problem! I used a cardboard box๐ฆ

I'm not crying... You're crying. ๐ญโค๏ธ This was delivered today in the mail from a neighbor I've never met. Teachers, you matter. And you will always have a special place in your student's heart, for years to come. #BeEncouraged#Allthefeels#thankyouneighbor ๐ฅฐ
Thanks @mslippy3 for the invite to create #fluidart with 3rd grade this morning! Those kiddos gave me all the good vibes I needed this๐ง๏ธmorning! After learning about Jackson Pollock in ELA, I showed them an acrylic pour painting using dish soap and glue ๐จ๐งผ๐งช #tutorialcomingsoon
