2 days ago I launched VoltExam on Product Hunt. The real numbers, no spin:
โ PH rank: #415
โ Upvotes: 4
โ Site visitors: 506 (+10% wk/wk)
โ iOS installs: 388+ across my 42 trade apps
โ Paid signups: 0
What actually worked wasn't PH โ my Electrician app spiked +380% in App Store installs on launch day. Demand showed up where tradespeople already are. ๐งต
Two Apple Search Ads campaigns, same $5/day budget, two different trades:
โ Crane operator (NCCCO): $1.87 / install
โ CDL Hazmat: $8.49 / install
4.5x apart on the same budget and the same playbook. The gap isn't the ads โ it's the trade's keyword market.
Crane keeps running. Hazmat stays paused until that number comes down. Across 42 trade apps, every niche prices its own attention.
Reconciled VoltExam's numbers against the live dashboards this week โ App Store Connect + Stripe, not memory. Where things actually stand:
โ 105 active paid iOS subscriptions across 42 trade apps
โ 113 total paying customers (incl. web)
โ ~$2K/mo run-rate, trailing 30 days โ up 34% vs the prior 30
The honest half: that $2K is bookings (lifetime + annual purchases included), not pure recurring MRR. The number I trust most is 105 active subs.
If you only audit your numbers when an investor asks, you don't know your numbers.
Most bought stocks by US senators over the last year:
NVDA ยท AAPL ยท MSFT ยท AMZN ยท GOOGL
The same names they regulate. Live signals ๐

30 days running Apple Search Ads on one niche trade app โ crane operator / NCCCO prep:
โ $37 spent
โ 20 installs
โ $1.87 per install
โ best day hit $1.48
The honest half: I know what an install costs me. I don't yet know what one's worth โ trialโpaid data lives in App Store Connect, and I haven't closed that loop.
A CPA isn't a ROAS until you measure both ends.
Since 2020, US senators have outperformed the S&P 500 by ~8% annually.
Funny how that works when you write the laws. ๐

Update on the launch-day bug: the checkout 503 that blocked every signup on Jun 4 is fixed โ the 3-day trial flow is back up, start to finish.
388+ tradespeople installed across my 42 apps that day and converted to 0, because checkout was down. The demand was never the problem.
Fix the boring stuff.
Senators have 45 days to disclose a stock trade by law.
Most file on day 44. By then the move has already played out. ๐

๐ด Markwayne Mullin โ USD 50,001 - 100,000 SELL ๐ด on $VLO.
Disclosed under the STOCK Act. See the full record: https://t.co/xaDCaddZDh #CongressionalTrading
@hi_sparklaunch Appreciate that ๐ People paying before any spotlight is the signal I trust most. Next step: ship the checkout fix that bit us on launch day, then lean into the trades already converting. More soon!
VoltExam launched on Product Hunt yesterday.
3 upvotes. No rank. 26 Twitter followers.
What worked: none of the PH mechanics. What mattered: 56 subscribers already paying before we launched.
Onward.
Weekend build log: deep in the checkout 503 that blocked every signup on launch day.
Traced it to the Jun 3 "checkout rework" deploy โ config on the /api/checkout function. Fix lands this weekend.
Lesson: smoke-test the deploy, not just the code. The bug that costs the most is the silent one.
@artists_voyage Agreed โ installs are people voting with their time, upvotes with a click. The +380% told me more than the PH rank ever could. Appreciate you ๐

@Validate_QA Fair question โ exactly what I'm watching. Early read: electrician has the steadiest organic demand so I think it holds, but I'll know once the launch bump settles. I'll share the honest follow-up either way ๐
@aryaan_smm Living proof of that this week. The trades are a specific crowd, and meeting them where they already are beat the broad splash. Thanks for the note!
@ApplyWiseAi Sharp observation โ the sideways pull was real. The electrician app caught demand the launch page never saw. Logging this for the next one, thank you!
@subramanya Exactly how I see it now. The vanity number said one thing; install intent + the checkout bug told the real story. Thanks for reading it that way ๐
Biggest lesson: 388 installs, 0 paid signups โ because my checkout threw a 503 the entire launch day. The traffic was real; the bug ate every conversion.
Ship the boring stuff (test your checkout) before you chase the spotlight. Fix goes live this weekend.
