Officer-involved shooting following domestic disturbance under investigation
ARVADA, Colo. β On Saturday, May 2, 2026, at approximately 7:02 a.m., Arvada Police officers were dispatched to an apartment at the Willow Green Townhomes located at 6989 Sheridan Blvd following a report of a disturbance involving an assault. Initial information indicated multiple individuals, including children, were inside the unit and that firearms were present.
Officers arrived on scene at approximately 7:11 a.m. and attempted to make contact with occupants. Officers observed evidence of a physical disturbance and concerns for the safety of those inside, officers made entry into the apartment under exigent circumstances.
Upon entry, officers encountered a person who had not been allowed to leave. Officers safely removed two women and a child from the residence. Officers were then informed that two adult male suspects remained inside and were believed to be armed.
Additional resources were requested, including assistance from the Westminster Police Department, which deployed a drone to assist with surveillance. During the incident, a male suspect was observed exiting a top-floor window onto the roof of the building while armed with a firearm, before returning inside.
At approximately 8:03 a.m., the suspect again exited onto the roof and retrieved a firearm. At that time, a Westminster officer monitoring the situation discharged their weapon, striking the armed suspect.
The suspect fell onto the roof. Due to the unknown situation inside the apartment and potential danger, emergency medical personnel were unable to immediately access him. A drone was used to monitor the suspect, who showed no signs of life.
The Jefferson County Regional SWAT Team responded and conducted a search of the apartment. No additional suspects were located inside. The suspect on the roof was later confirmed deceased at approximately 11:00 a.m.
Investigators recovered two firearms near the deceased suspect on the roof and an additional firearm inside the apartment.
This remains an active investigation. Arvada Police detectives are investigating the initially reported assault and other charges. The 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team has assumed the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
No further information will be released at this time.
Arvada Fire and several partners are participating in an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) training today simulating a train incident. This is just a trainingβ there is no active emergency.
