Samir Arora says Capital Gains Tax on Foreign Investors is Biggest mistake by the government. It is Souring sentiment among foreign investors, leading to massive selling.

Foreign Institutional Investors ( FIIs ) have sold ₹1 trillion worth of Indian equities in the last few months.

Foreign Sovereign Funds, Pension Funds, and HNIs face additional risks ( like forex volatility ) and no tax set-off in their home countries.

Arora believes India should waive capital gains tax to attract and retain foreign investments.

India collected $10-11 billion as capital gains tax in FY23 which comes once in 6-7 years. Average collection annually shall be $3-3.5 billion per year.
