Something that has been lost in the past decade or so is the idea that gameplay serves a narrative purpose. OG silent hill 2 was like this because James is a regular guy, so narratively he can't fight for fucking shit. We have lost the art of mechanical storytelling
It will never cease to frustrate me that so many people seem to just not realize that casual mode is a fundamentally different game, not just "less stressful cause I would reset anyways". It showsZero critical thought about what the entire medium is actually doing.
