Sad that he died but there is a reason for what has been a palpable emotional response:

His company’s business practices were abhorrent for those of us involved in healthcare.

His division oversaw UHGs Medicare Advantage plans which outright denied appropriate services to seniors based on arbitrary guidelines. (They’re being sued for using an AI algorithm to deny therapy services to seniors). Vindication also has a propensity to cut loose “high utilization” patients that were costing UHG too much money and funneling them back onto the taxpayers dime (Medicare).

Finally, he unloaded a good bit of stock before his patent company was about to be investigated by the DOJ, netting a $15M windfall for himself while UHG shareholders took a $25B loss.

Not the sort of person I would celebrate.
